That's a great idea about only doing half. I will certainly think about that, just a wee bit and the veggies. I always served broad beans, peas, boiled spuds and white sauce with parsley on ham but your cheesy leeks....I WANT

They work really well with the ham i reckon you could spread some cold in a ham sandwich and it would be lush
Cheesey leeks are fab I reckon half would do a hot meal and then sandwiches and lunches until miniTwass arrives. You could eat all the evidence before she gets there

David BeckHam is introducing the programme, GraHam Coxon (from Blur) is doing the music with Englebert Hamperdink and Jon Hamm is my plus one for the evening. It's exciting i will be able to have a drink as Lewis Hamilton is driving me there.

right can people offer me insight into their thoughts over the following please i'd really appreciate it.

Recently some old friends i have known for 25 years (but have been out of proper contact with the last couple of poorly years) have been in contact and are asking how i am. i don't know what to reply so i haven't answered their mails.

I don't know whether to just lie and say "great!" or to tell the truth.
Part of me want to lie cos it's depressing and awkward for the people hearing about ill health but then i don't like lying to people. So i decided to come and ask you guys what you think!
I think it depends if this is an overture to them playing a bigger role in your friendship circle going forward. Also how good a friends they are (horrible grammar but I coudn't find an alternative without going all around the houses)

I would go for something like 'I am alright in myself but have gone through the wars quite a lot since we last met. In and out of hospital like a yo-yo. In other words tell the truth but in a light or humourous way and don't go into detail unless they ask. I thnk that is what I would do. But then again I don't know them. Come to think of it I don't know you either although I feel like I do. I think puts my advice into perspective.

I think of all meats, ham is the one that re-cooks the best. Such a versitle meat I am so glad I wasn't born jewish or muslim. In fact in my late teens I toyed with converting to Judaism but the foresaking of bacon was the deal breaker.

*heaves oneself into thread* hello all, hope you're having a good weekend.

Hammy stuff, saw Mary Berry recommending mango chutney as a glaze. The national dish, bacon and cabbage, never uses a glaze. Boil bacon/ham, always cook cabbage in bacon water, gorgeous.

Moved bullocks into shed today, only two cows to go. Winter is here.
Wot no spuds!

As for the BIB - completely misread that. Thought you had just had a bad day.

Didn't thaw here either planets Proper chilly! Fortunately temps are set to rise, at least here in the south.

Sounds like you're having a Hamtastic time

The fire is blazing and I have a dressing gown on over my clothes but I am not that warm Totally pitch black. I am glad to be indoors!!

I didn't find a small ham today, they all seemed to be whoppers aimed at huge families wanting to eat ham for several weeks

I almost never go to Sainsburys as it's dearer and farther to travel, I tried Lidl and Asda...full of whoppers. I might try the butcher tomorrow ....he might cut me a wee one!

I'd be honest with them, but brief, sparing of detail but without dumbing it down. Then wait for the reaction.

Would be my first reaction too.

Reaction after I'd thought about it for a bit. But some, if not all, will genuinely want to wish you well and send good vibes.

Spuds are never mentioned because they are non negotiable. (London sister got married in a v. posh home counties hotel, who were taken aback when told to serve, minimum, 6x usual spud portion).
