I gave myself a wee pressie before christmas, i found a dvd of the older version of Persuasion with Ciarin Hinds as Captain Wentworth and watched it tonight. It's years since i saw it but i remembered him as the perfect Captain Wentworth and indeed he was. Is his letter to Anne the best fictional letter ever ?

"I can listen no longer in silence. I must speak to you by such means as are within my reach. You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone for ever. I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own than when you almost broke it, eight years and a half ago. Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death. I have loved none but you. Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant. You alone have brought me to Bath. For you alone, I think and plan. Have you not seen this? Can you fail to have understood my wishes? I had not waited even these ten days, could I have read your feelings, as I think you must have penetrated mine. I can hardly write. I am every instant hearing something which overpowers me. You sink your voice, but I can distinguish the tones of that voice when they would be lost on others. Too good, too excellent creature! You do us justice, indeed. You do believe that there is true attachment and constancy among men. Believe it to be most fervent, most undeviating, in

F. W.

I must go, uncertain of my fate; but I shall return hither, or follow your party, as soon as possible. A word, a look, will be enough to decide whether I enter your father's house this evening or never.

He's always been a striking fellow....the combo of that face and those words, surely no heart would be able to resist! I imagine you've spent the night in a swoonlike state after watching that! Sustaining yourself occasionally with a turkey sandwich or two

Yes indeedy!!
Had a busy afternoon took my mum shopping then came back stripped the turkey minced the meat made rissoles got the bones in the slow cooker for stock to start the broth. I feel like a good little housewife it's because the rissoles are so delicious it's worth the hassle!

Did you have a nice day? it was freezing white hoare frost here and fog but very beautiful to look at!

Very cold here too, spent most of the day waiting for the wood man to come, he just has as darkness fell so I lugged in enough for tonight and covered the rest in old plastic picnic tablecloths til the morning. I can't stack it in the pitch darkness plus I have an evil cough that needs to do one before long periods are spent outdoors in the arcticness!!!

Sounds like you've been busy, will you bring rissoles and broth home to yours for freezer stashing?

OH nooooooooooo keep warm shall i nip to the pub and get you a hot toddy?

Yes one of my chrostmas presents (i am somewhat fetishishic about cooking equipment and kitchen ware i love it all so much ) was a large pyrex bowl with a tupperware lid (genius) i can take my broth back in that and divided it up. rissoles are in the freezer and i'll take half of them home too. It 's the last turkey dinner tonight
and it was my last turkey breakfast panini of the season this morning still haven't been anywhere near the christmas pudding yet!

How's about you are you just knackered and feeling poorly? is it duvet on the sofa time?

It has indeed been slanket on the sofa time and is again now I have the fire going! And I brewed myself a lemon, ginger and honey to slurp on as well. The pyrex bowl sounds genius! Even if there is sloppage while driving the lid should hang onto the precious liquid. How will you have the last turkey dinner? Casseroled? Curried??

Me neither.
Funnily enough i was talking to my mum about it this afternoon and said i think it is the best comedy of all time. Far surpasses Fawlty Towers which is usually touted as best comedy. I find it hard to believe Father Ted is 20 odd years old, i've lost count of how many times i've seen them and i always laugh.

It had such a wide audience. On the documentary Graham Linehan was saying how he had to go on television to defend Father Ted from accusations it was racist from a woman from Manchester

I have the dvds but if they are on telly i always watch them they never fail to make me smile/laugh/feel good. Hoorah!
the Pat Mustard Speed episode is on now.

Same here, think I've said nieces love snuggling up in tkjr,'s bed when he's not here to watch the box set. They are at the moment in Bali, Queensland and California. Time passes so quickly.

It's so quotable:
We should all be careful on the mainland.
There's a lot of crime - arsonists and muggers all over.
My friend was robbed last week.
- Oh, no! Did they get much?
No, Father. You misunderstand. She was robbed. They stole her.
- Oh, I see.
Terrible when an old person can't walk the street without being stolen.
It is.

Oh god, it never stops. My favourite, ever, is two lads holding up cardboard notices saying careful now and down with this sort of thing, in front of massed ranks of polish riot police. Now nite all xl

I love Father Ted, must watch it yet again! I saw Ethel and Ernest last night and was transfixed. I loved it. Shed many tears. So many parallels with my parents lives, dad was evacuated, mum lived through the blitz, the cockney which Dad got rid of at grammar school but came out when he was tiddly, the insistence on NOT being working class despite my granddad being a plasterer from Tooting.....the house which looked like my grandparents houses, and even when I was born when Mum was 31 the doctor telling my dad no more because she struggled and was now too old!!! Lovely programme and well worth watching. Very poignant at the end.

Afternoon Sillies. I had a perfectly lovely time earlier a delicious bacon and tomato panini and cup of tea in bed watching the film Agatha.
It felt really indulgent.

hope you are feeling a bit better Twass.

The world is falling out of my nose On the other hand, I'm coughing less

I am on the sofa under the slanket with the fire crackling away, watching the tellybox with occasional forays to the kitchen

I suspect what ails you is drastic ham withdrawal it's very dangerous and an underestimated side effect of vegetarianism

*brings tray of tasty sandwiches and biscuits, cakes and fruit*
