BUt yes I am a tad bored if I am honest. The availibility of a good market and a well equipped kitchen I think looms large in my mind because meals and the preparation of same is a source of occupation for me.”

Dear Twinny,

you would love the Vikings if only you knew them like me and Twass do

what's the kitchen like where you are is it basic? is there anywhere to get fresh veggies and garlic? lots of Mediterranean veggies would be delicious...even if you can only get tomatoes and onions and garlic if you have an oven to roast them in they'd be lovely roasted and then squished into a sauce.....otherwise it takes a bit longer in a pan....

He's so good at portraying that intelligence. There is one episode where he doesn't speak throughout the whole episode until right at the end he says a prayer and yet you don't notice he hasn't spoken as you feel you know what he is feeling the whole time.....it's a truly amazing performance. They are making season 4 it began production in Dublin area around April /May this year and premieres next year i think....we shuld send tk off to spy for us!!!

I can see I'm going to have to get into this (although I got a box set of Breaking Bad last Christmas, and have yet to watch a single episode).

Yes, when Rollo was here in February he sneaked off one night; opened the paper next morning and he was on front page of the business section, having signed a contract to start filming in Wicklow in spring. We had words, he hadn't finished the fencing

I can thoroughly recommend it. Out of all the stuff i have watched in the past 22 months to distract myself from wounds i would say the 3 Vikings series, the first series of True Detective (Matthew MacConaughey and Woody Harrelson) and Detectorists on BBC4 are the best things i've seen.

So he had his new contract and he still finished off the fencing? bless him

Right just ordered 1 & 2. Not seen the others, and had made a mental note to watch Detectorists which went by the wayside, hope for repeats.

Yes, dear Rollo, a true gent *wipes tear from eye*

Now to shower off the sunscreen

Well patience isn't one of my virtues....I always want to know what's happening next! The Uppsala bit was most strange...presumably this is based on fact? I didn't know Vikings performed human sacrifice.

while you are waiting for series 2 and 3 to arrive check out the dvd commentaries they are really interesting - pretty much most of this is based on the sagas and historical evidence.

I know Ragnar Lothbrok was real. It's all fascinating stuff! I will look at the commentaries, I'm quite sure they were really that bloodthirsty. I was gunning for the old bloke to get his wish and go to Valhalla, he had a good death

It's a different perspective on life though, one has to remember to try and see it through the mind of the time rather than 2015...there's an interesting moment when Bjorn (Ragnar's young son) says (to Athelstan i think) "it's only death".....

They had a totally different attitude to death. It was not feared, but almost welcomed. The saxons found their lack of fear in battle astounding, it was a cultural difference. The boy Bjorn looks so much like his mother they could really be related...great bit of casting!

I've always loved Norse mythology and legends. And the beautiful scenery of their homeland!! Why they would want to come and settle in the North of England instead is most odd!
