Did anyone else make pom pom pets out of oddments of wool as a kid?
No, but I could do French knitting.
Oh yes wool wound around two bits of card. I did it quite recently actually - giant size using rafia to make cheerleader style pom poms for my friend's daughters.

Is french knitting the one with 4 nails in a cotton reel?

Yes! Remember the wooden doll Knitting Nancy with the four prongs on her head, that you did the knitting on, then the tube of knit came out of her.....end

Sweet dreams Moose!! xx
Yes I remember that and that was exactly it. You ended up with a bit of woolley rope that had no practical use at all. I often wondered why the french didn't do knitting that was more useful!

Night Moosey. xx

Me too. And a few years ago I had a real sheep called Agnus..
That figures. Clearly your destiny from a young age. However it has put me to mind of the oddness of the idea of taking wool from a sheep, spinning it etc, winding it around two cardboard circles to makie pom poms to make into a sheep. Weird things we humans do. No wonder cats look at us like we are potty.

That sounds exciting! Might give it a try.

Yes I had four nails in a cotton reel too. Still never made anything worth looking at.

Night all, x

Sorry about this smilie, cannot seem to edit it out

Morning all peeps!! I guess four nails in a cotton reel would do the job....only you would need a wooden one which were being phased out even when I was a lass. The French knitting was only good for mats and coasters when spiralled and sewn together...otherwise it was useless

But think of the possibilities of what you could create if you knitted enough worms. I'm talking like millions. I'm thinking you could make some rather fetching wormy bags for starters (I have a thing for knitted bags ) Be a bit of a bugger stitching them all together mind

Not that I'm biased or anything but the old ways ARE the best.

I think I will make a cuppa and stick an episode on

It was a weird one tk! Apparently stating i had studied t'ai chi and qigong for a number of decades to someone who had only read an article about the effects of qigong, was deemed "provocative" I did write and ask what exactly was provocative but i never got a reply i'm guessing t'ai chi is provocative in and of itself. It was banned under Mao in China with many of the masters being sent to labour camps as being a practitioner was regarded as being an Anarchist *sings PiL song* luckily many of them escaped to Taiwan so the teachings didn't die out.

Thank you for my passionfruit sorbet though i tried getting some myself but there were none left only strawberry

Are you all christmased up? We have flood warnings here and the river is very high and flooding all the neighbouring fields *eek*
