I am mystified by the dry turkey stories too. I am also gobsmacked that I am not so weird as I thought. I thought I was probabaly the only person to put bread sauce in a turkey sandwich and that the bubble and squeak et al was a family idiosyncrasy.

I suspect we pretty much all do it, I grew up with it and continued the tradition myself once married. I last cooked a turkey two Christmases ago when son and DIL came to me, it was huge and after they went home on Boxing Day I lived off it for the best part of a week

As a kid Dad and I would drive out to the turkey farm in October and choose a bird....then it would arrive in a cardboard box shortly before the big day!

Hello everybody, hope all well and happy. All cleared up now and watching a lovely programme about the Aardman story. Can't wait for the Farmers Llamas tonight!

How is your river planets? My Lancashire rellies are getting nervous.

Turkey stories: when I was very small a big brown paper wrapped package with hundreds of stamps would arrive just before Christmas. A turkey, lovingly hand reared, despatched and posted by my Dad's Mum from Ireland. Would last us several days, the soup from the eventual carcass well into the new year

Awh i love the idea of the turkey coming through the post!!! Health and Safety-ists would go mental today! Yet everyone was fine with it. My mum read in the paper today you are supposed to throw the turkey carcass out today we live of it for days with rissoles and soup and aforementioned bubble and squeakyness.

The fields around my mum's house are like lakes
not sure how the river is doing at home i keep checking the dale's facebook page for news!!

Incidentally just found out the series Beowulf was filmed in my dale!!! how exciting!!! hope its good if it's not i shall pretend it was filmed in the dale next door

Hi tk! My friend in Hebden Bridge is watching the waters rise nervously, and another in Preston is flooded nearby although thankfully not where she is.

Mum never fridged the carcass, it was too big! It sat on the cold tiled shelf in the larder on a plate with a damp tea towel over it We survived
