Why is so many wanting to see The X factor axed?
the how has had an incredible run, the biggest talent show in British television history FACT! And has created a lot of record sales throughout the years. I think once the show is gone people will release what they have lost tbh.
It is IMO a great entertainment show which actually has shown a lot of talented artists over the years |

I think people have just had enough. No matter how you look at it, 12 seasons is a lot for a reality show. It gets stale. Plus then you have the whole getting more manipulative, contrived, etc. thing through the years which has worn people down.
I personally don't really want it to be axed, but I don't think I'd care all that much if it was either. |

It's not the biggest talent show ever, BGT is.
But I agree it has created a ton of fantastic artists and will always be infinitely better than The Voice. |

I personally don't really want it to be axed, but I don't think I'd care all that much if it was either. to me there are 2 major things wrong with the show now that have crept in over the last couple of years , or at least became more apparent its become more of a reality show than a talent show in some ways , all the fake drama and predictable storylines are more the type of stuff you would expect on big brother than the x factor the show also feels like its now nothing more than a marketing vehicle for SYCO and a 3 month prime time promotion campaign for this years "chosen one" the show has become a bit of a contradiction in alot of ways , it keeps talking about trying to be more "credible" and "current" and trying to appeal to the younger demographic but still feature alot of incredibly dated acts and song choices |

Because it's turned into a complete pantomime.

SCD has run for just about the same number of Series as X Factor has (both of them were created in 2004), but I see no signs of that being axed.

They don't. I think what people are upset about is the rank dishonesty of the program and treating the viewers like they are stupid. A good example is the staged walk out of Mason Noise.

X Factor has become a parody of itself. Simples!!!
If everything wasn't so badly scripted yet so tragically transparent then it would have still had some (and I really mean "some" generously here ) dignity left. We've seen the winners fall by the wayside whilst acts that got nowhere close to winning becoming bonafide success stories. So it's all become very "what's the point?". 2014 has proved it was a waste of 4 months - unless you're called Simon Cowell or ITV. Fleur East looks likely to be the most successful act out of last years batch. Had she won and gone to become the most successful it would make sense. Sadly JLS, Olly Murs, One Direction and Rylan got there first. Yes, I said Rylan!!!

XF has always been a con. It has always been a vehicle for Cowell/Syco to get artists which can sell records for the company and make it money. It's a modern example of the old Tin Pan Alley approach to the music industry which many of us thought was diminished at the time of The Beatles and then punk. However, it re-emerged with Stock, Aitken and Waterman in the late 80s and has gone on to greater things with Fuller and Cowell. My suggestion is to switch off and listen to Adele or The Arctic Monkeys or better still switch over and watch 'Later with Jools Holland' if you want real music. |

I don't want to see it axed, maybe rested for a little while so it can catch breath and have a good old fashioned overhaul as this year is just so average
Seems patently obvious which 3 or 4 acts are going to be there at the end, and even then one of those acts does not deserve to be there given how professional they already are And now with today's news that The Voice is coming over from the BBC that rest could come sooner rather than later and let The Voice develop in its new home |

To be honest OP, I think it's mainly DS'ers who have this opinion! You'd be forgiven for thinking the live show thread was some kind of non-appreciation thread.

I think broadly speaking people are just largely indifferent to it now, if not disinterested - hence the producers upping the manufactured drama as they're desperate to recreate the talking points of a Matt vs Rebecca or an Alex vs JLC. Problem is that with all that prodding, cajoling and manipulation the underlying corruption of the format bubbles up to the surface blinking into the sunlight and it's pretty ugly. So you have more and more people each year asking themselves why they should invest time in a show that pretends it's audience has some form of agency while actually ignoring it and pushing whoever Simon favours regardless. |

I'd guess because the brand has been damaged beyond all repair. The Voice has its problems to deal with but its not damaged goods like XF is.

The fact that more often than not the people who don't even win become bigger stars than the 'winner' makes the whole thing a bit pointless and cynical and people are getting fed up with it.

TV shows don't last forever.
It is old and tired, people get bored of the same shit for 12 years in a row. I know this is hard for the die hards on DS to understand but the public vote with their feet and they are bored. |

Why does this show try to sabotaged its acts. Its getting more and more amateur by the year. No wonder I get polls sent to me asking what I think of the show. They are seriously worried.
I can't see it lasting much longer. Its not like they dont have the talent. They just dont know what to do with it. Great staging though. Ill give it that. |

Going back to the beginning when it came under Pop Idol it actually felt as if it was a search for a hidden gem. Pete Waterman was a very good judge and being a very successful songwriter his comments were respected, acts such as Will Young came across as genuine but as the years went by there seemed a lot less innocence about it all, gone were the auditions in a room sung in acapela and replaced with over the top performances by seasoned acts and it's become difficult to tell how much of it is actually being sung live, it's too overblown and it now looks like acts who have never got the break slugging it out for a record deal with no place for inexperience on a big stage, certain acts are treated like the teachers pet and everyone else is a sideshow, there's nothing sincere about it anymore just a search for making money out of a disposable act.

I don't want it axed. I want it to go back to basics. The producers are targeting the wrong audience. I DONT want to see an audience until live shows! It spoils it so much. I dont watch BGT cos of morons in the audience.
Back to the rooms with just judges and no microphones. Then on to bootcamp with just the tension from the contestants watching each performance in the background, then seeing the hissy fits when someone they are put with doesn't pull their weight or are too hungover to perform. Oh and bring back Dannii, Sharon and Louis....or is that asking too much? |
