I think that they're . I'm really disappointed in tonight's Argentine Tango because I know that it could have been so good. He just seemed purposely distant. It seems like he was in a no win-win situation, if he brought all that passion and fire, people would have talked more about the rumours but when he didn't, the dance suffered. However, I feel like he should be able to ignore what the tabloids are saying about him and Aliona and Just dance.
They have great chemistry on the dance floor but it seems like at times he was just performing steps and not actually living the dance like he had in their other routines.

Thoughts ?

I don't think so.
It's difficult, when someone asks you to do something .. which is not natural for you .. to then produce it. It doesn't come easy and the more they go on about it, the more self conscious he's going to feel.
I don't have any trouble connecting with him on the dance floor and I'm guessing lots of other people feel the same. There's something magical about him and it's all the more endearing .. IMO .. because he doesn't pull silly faces or act fake.
There's an intensity that I love.

I thought it was good...maybe some are just expecting to much from him.

No, he's just really bad at performing.

Yet another thread continuing the gossip theme.

I think the problem is that he started out with a bang and has failed to live up to that ever since. It would help if he was'n't completely personality-free as well. If he had half the charm of say Anita or Jeremy he could get away with it, but unfortunately he was last in the queue when it came to doling out charisma.

Tbh I was really excited by Jay when he danced his Jive, and although I haven't really expected anything else to live up to the brilliance of that, I'm thinking that was just a flash in the pan as he hasn't really done anything special since then.
A few of the others are well out shining him now.

Of course you were.

I think people are just waiting for another 'jive' performance. Bar the QS all his dances have been good but his jive was obviously amazing and really entertaining.

If he hadn't done the jive I think there would be less complaints.

His dancing remains on point, as the judges say it's just the emoting he needs to work on. He's looked completely terrified since week one so it makes sense this would be the thing he'd struggle with. He'll get over it, he's already improved since that first week when he looked as if he was participating in a very glittery hostage video.

No.

He has been criticised in the past for his lack of "characterisation" in dances. He is incredible at dancing, but is poor at showcasing.

34 is not to be sniffed at anyway!

I just thought he was thinking through the dance too much rather than feeling and doing it naturally. I understand this since I have a similar problem.

It never occurred to me that it had anything to with rumours. I can just see this turning into yet another Jay/Aliona gossip thread.

He's got far more charm .. and charisma .. than Anita and Jeremy. As Claudia quite rightly said .. he is edible.
If he's a charisma free zone .. then he won't get the votes will he? I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

Totally agree, was he a one hit wonder? I wish people would stop trying to link him romantically with Aliona.

He's lacking in quite a lot of things, and it's starting to show. Reminds me a little of Jake last year. Although I do rate Jay way higher than Jake.

Aliona was squirming all over him which is to me came across as a cover up for his weakness in this dance.

He'll still win in my opinion

I think Jay just struggles with the performance side of the dances. He needs help with that, which hopefully he'll get (there will probably be a 'help with performance/acting VT next week! )

The reason I'm disappointed with the Tango it's because there wasn't much for Jay to do. Aliona did most of the work and he pretty much didn't do anything. I know it's a difficult dance for the male because it's all about the woman but there could have been more content for him, at least.

No idea about rumours though.

Wow charming.

The fact that he is the most 'normal' out of the celebrities is what makes me like him the most. He is just shy, nothing wrong with that.

I thought he did ok. I think a couple of the judges would like to see him camply gurning away like some second rate drama queen.

Yes, he's a shy, ickle, cute boy...man of 25 who has been famous for years and is well used to performing and dancing.

It's the "Strictly journey" every celeb needs to have. The judges bang on about performance, he underperform even though he's the best dancer there imo, they say he's not performing. He'll do a charleston a la Louis Smith which is danced no differently but has ridiculous gurning and the judges will claim he's had a breakthrough, when he hasn't really.

You either connect with him or you don't.

Dont think the rumours are getting to Jay for me I see this series going like 2012 with Louis all he needs is help with acting and then he will get better and better each week. Yes his jive amazing but still think he has some outstanding dances left he hasnt peaked and he has only one bad dance all the others have been great.
