Helen just looked slightly scared and serious throughout her rumba and I didn't feel any passion. But she has the 'needs to unlearn her ballet training' storyline and Jay gets the 'needs to perform' line as he is quiet and clearly much better technically than any of the others so needs something to work on. I loved Mark R's AT, but I don't think he was putting on a great performance acting-wise, he just completely looked the part so that did it for him. Jay just doesn't have a dark, smouldering look and pulling faces isn't going to change that.”

Kellie's dance didn't require drama or emotion . Her dance was all about the footwork and posture . The facial expression is meant to remain neutral in a waltz. It would look decidedly odd trying to dramatise a waltz .

No argument there!

I don't like the deliberate changing of his name to insult him though, it just seems unnecessary and childish.

I think it was over marked, he basically moved around while Aliona danced round him.
AT is my fav dance and I expected more.

To say otherwise indicates a need of the writer to experience a bit more of life.”

But I didn't say he didn't have charm, just not as much as Anita or Jeremy. I stand by my assertion though that he is devoid of personality.

As to your last sentence, I'm 71 years old and have more life experience that anyone could wish for

I didn't actually say dramatise it, but I'm pretty sure some people were calling for Jay to emote and connect with the dance when he did the waltz (despite his posture and footwork being great). What about Helen - Is the face supposed to remain scared in the rumba?

as i've said all along about jay, its like watching a frighteningly over proficient 12 year old. all the right moves, but completely lacking any emotional understanding or depth. like any art form, it's only convincing if it connects to lived experience in yourself and in others, and he doesn't appear to do either. poor aliona, she was superb tonight, but yet again reduced to mothering a monstrously oversized infant.

At times some of the celebs go overboard with charm.....that is the reason I like Jay that he is just him...no falseness...no in your face.

I'm confused. Changing of whose name?

I've seen some posts talking about "P'duh" which is, I assume a childish way of mocking Peter's accent. Is that what you mean?

Yes, I'll second this. Anita and Jeremy are my 2 favs because they have loads of personality. It is obvious that they are both really enjoying the dance experience and Jeremy also has loads of charm.

all the incomprehending, blank faced blinking like a rabbit in the headlights, unable to muster even an incomplete sentence when he's with claudia is weird as well. does he have some sort of social / communication difficulties?

Speaking from socially awkward experience, you can get so in your head trying to think of the proper response to a normal human conversation that your blurt out the first monosyllabic thing you can just to avoid the long silence.
