I have watched plenty of tv over the years.
We will just have to disagree over the degree of difficulty there is in judging a programme and how long is required to decide whether it is poor, average or good.

I thought the episode was one of the best, partly due to the 'Oh shit'! ending which came out of the blue, and partly due to it's innovative style. Damn clever and totally engrossing imo.

I thought that was a great episode. My 7yr old son was a bit bored though.

I was really enjoying it, then the Doctor said they were sleep dust Monsters.. monsters made of sleep dust from human eyes, man size monsters from the dust created by the human eye... cobblers

The moon is and egg, magic trees and the Earth magically recovering from these traumatic events and now monsters made of sleep dust, how are these ideas getting past their initial pitch, does Moffat/PTB just not care or is he/they purposely allowing these ludicrous ideas to happen, are these seriously the best pitches and ideas that they are getting.

There's a fine line and some things feel right and we can just go with it and others don't feel right or in the case of the egg moon scream that its stupid. Shadows that eat people Statues that move, dummies that come alive all of these ideas feel right and the audience will go with it, hulking monsters made of sleep dust does not feel right and I just couldn't go with it despite liking what the episode was doing around it, but that idea really dragged the episode down for me.

Capaldi was good.

Well that analogy makes no sense. A story can change dramatically over the course of 45 minutes, a salty glass of water will always be a salty glass of water. No comparison.

I'm not trying to convince anyone of my opinion, I would never be so arrogant as to do that. Plenty of posters here don't seem to have that level of humility or self control.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I will robustly defend everyone's rights to hold whatever opinions they so wish - but the validity and integrity of someone's opinion is badly compromised if they've not actually watched the whole programme on which they are giving an opinion.

Silly episode,no tension silly camera work,silly monsters,Clara in the pod,which was forgot about almost instantly.Ho did she get there? Bizarre.

The only way of knowing for sure is to read the whole story or watch the whole TV show.
If you don't then, sure, you can hold an opinion on said story, but it can't possibly be a particularly informed one.

What's happening to this show!! Every episode it just gets more silly and more far fetched than ever! This isn't doctor who! Gone are the days when I couldn't wait for saturday to arrive for a new episode and looking forward and build up to the finale! And what's worse is capaldi is such a great actor and doctor and he's given such crap material to work with! Personally the BBC need to step in and take action with regards to how this show is ending up , theirs no good story's keeping fans gripped, no real likeable characters , the whole show just needs a complete overhaul and serious revamp before it goes to far to be saved , sounds drastic but we all know its true

I can't understand how the show is so bad. The only decent thing about it are the production values.

No 'we' don't. Tonights episode was better than 9 episodes of S2 for instance. So there is no problem at all.

Too far fetched? Too silly? DW in all its years has never been afraid to be either of those things and has always been better for it.

Don't make promises you can't keep, it's that simple.

And to characterise the banter as 'abuse' is drama-llama territory I'm afraid.

Well, after what has been a generally strong run of stories I felt that Sleep No More was more a good idea than it was a good story. I liked the found footage idea - something Who hasn't done before - and the space station looked big and functional. But the plot was rather confused and confusing, the guest characters were somewhat weak and forgettable and, crucially for me, the Doctor simply wasn't Doctorish enough. In fact at times it didn't feel much like Doctor Who, which is odd as usually Gatiss is pretty good at capturing the innate Who-ishness of the series. Perhaps the lack of opening titles didn't help in this respect? Not one of Gatiss' best episodes.

However, I still enjoyed the monsters (I like lumpy monsters, OK? They were the best part of Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS, and one of my earliest memories of Who was the antibody creatures in the Exxilon city) and the disintegration of Rassmussen at the end - cleverly done and effectively gruesome. And next week looks stronger.

Is this not what Doctor Who does though? Tries to give us the chills over the mundane and the ordinary.

If we're supposed to think that by watching the footage ourselves as the viewer that we're susceptible to becoming Sandmen ourselves then I think the episode works. But then, i did find myself getting bored tonight so I'll have to rewatch.
