So far they have formed okay with American songs and their one dance routine.

Sound of the underground is a very British song and a very different key to what they are comfortable with.

I was also surprised being a girl group they didn't know it.

The songs they perform are all very American and this performance was a surprising train wreck

I really like 4th Impact, but last night they were terrible, it was such a shame, still, overall, imo they are one of the best acts there.

Haven't you heard their practice sessions? It sounds amazing, harmonies in particular. But in live, their vocal mics were set to very (very!) low gain settings, resulting an overpowered low quality backing track. Re-watch on youtube, you will see they were trying hard to get their sounds heard! I felt sorry for them.

I really like 4th Impact, but last night they were terrible, it was such a shame, still, overall, imo they are one of the best acts there.

I'm not sure about typical anything but the difference here is that early Girls Aloud songs had a strong rock element in their music (there were plenty of guitars). That seemed to really throw 4th Impact.

British female vocal groups like The Spice Girls, Girls Aloud and maybe even Sugababes have a strong pop and rock influence, US female vocal groups like TLC, En Vogue, Destiny's Child and 5th Harmony have a stronger R&B influence in their music.

For me 4th Impact are soulless,

It was awful.

They were found out big time.

Once you've seen them once you don't need to see them again they are that predictable.

i dont think "sound of the underground" was something that should have thrown them just because it is by a "british group" , its a stereotypical girl band song and if we have reached the point of saying acts are so limited that this sort of difference in song choices means they cannot cope then they should all just go home

'Sound of the Underground' has a very distinct sound (metallic and surfy) and it's a seminal song from the 00s. It wasn't released in the US. And along with the Sugababe's 'Round, Round' and 'Freak Like Me' is credited wth helping to reshape British pop music. So it is not a stereotypical girl band song at all. You need to get up to speed on your modern British pop music.

And it threw 4th Impact.

sorry but thats grasping at straws , and i am quite up to date with my modern music thank you , altho girl bands are not something i pay much attention to

i repeat if an act is so limited that a song choice like this throws them then it doesn't say alot about their ability, its not as if girls aloud were musical genuises was it

Cheryl (and the show for that matter) couldn't care less about 4th Impact. Thrown on early with a rubbish arrangement and lukewarm comments while slobbering all over Reggie n Bollie every week.

Clearly you are not up to date if you describe 'Sound of the Undetground' as a stereotypical girl group song when it is clearly not that. It isn't a traditional British pop song either.

Xenomania were behind Girls Aloud so it was a collaborative thing. 'Biology' is another great example of innovation and distinction In GA's music. And GA if not geniuses were very influential and a bit different. I preferred Sugababes myself. And again if you knew about the history of British Pop music you would know that there have always been differences between UK and US pop music.

What's the problem with 4th Impact just being a bit rubbish?

to me it is a stereotypical girl band song , as i said i dont pay alot of attention to girl bands

i repeat once more , if they struggle with a song that girls aloud made successful it does not say alot about their ability , its not like they were being asked to sing metallica

your BiB is exactly what i have been saying btw ...

Baby Metal do some good Metal music, so it is possible. A 'Metal' theme would be great. Symphonic metal would suit Seann or Louisa or Monica even.

'Sound of the Underground' clearly was outside of 4th Impact's comfort zone.
I don't think 4th Impact have much ability, it's all hype from XF producers.

In fact listening to all the 'artists' last night, I don't think there is much talent there at all.
Reggie and Bollie?

thats my main gripe about this show , we get so many one-trick ponies that you take them a hairs breadth outside their "comfort zone" and they struggle but instead of some posters just acknowledging that limitation its always the songs fault

i dont expect acts to be able to sing multiple genres but i do expect them to be able to sing a variety of styles within their chosen genre and still do it justice

Going to say what I said on the discussion thread yesterday. Whoever is in charge of changing the keys for songs to be performed on X Factor needs to be fired and banned from involvement in music ever again. It wasn't even just 4th Impact who suffered from crap key changes either, though I think they got the worst of it.

Are you calling 4th Impact one trick pony?? When did you start watching? Or shall I ask you what is your definition of one trick pony?

I didn't think they were bad, although the beginning was a bit off but in the chorus they sounded great

Thankfully they have such good voices they pulled it off

I actually agree with you... but over all better than half of the acts...
But I still don't get how some posters here call them one trick pony... it's week 2 and they undergone numerous of audition stages, I am sure they have sung different song and they call them one trick pony?

They are though.

Very formulaic - see them once you think they are great - see them again and you think - hmm I've seen this before.

The question you have to ask is - would you watch and listen to a whole gig or album?

My answer would be a resounding NO.
