Rememberance Poppies
Anyone notice that Tristan was the only one who did not wear a poppy. The Italians were wearing the and they were on the other side.

Tristan shouldn't be forced to wear it . Enough, already.

This has been gone over many times before.
As I understand it, poppies are not an Irish thing. I would imagine a lot of those not wearing poppies last night would be doing so to avoid catching them on their partners when in hold, dancing in close contact or during lifts, Janette for example was not wearing one. |

As the Royal British Legion says it better than I can: Quote:
The right way to wear a poppy
There is no right or wrong way to wear a poppy. It is a matter of personal choice whether an individual chooses to wear a poppy and also how they choose to wear it. The best way wear a poppy, is to wear it with pride. When to wear a poppy The correct time to wear a poppy is whenever you wish to show your support for the British Armed Forces past and present. Traditionally, the Poppy Appeal runs for the two weeks leading up to Armistice Day or Remembrance Sunday, whichever is later. Freedom to wear a poppy We take the view that the poppy represents sacrifices made in the defence of freedom; and so the decision to wear it must be a matter of personal choice. If the poppy became compulsory it would lose its meaning and significance. We are thankful for every poppy worn, every shop that allows poppy collections, and every employer that permits the poppy to be displayed - but we never insist upon these things or claim a natural right. To do otherwise would not only be contrary to the spirit of Remembrance but all that the poppy stands for. |

Not another thread on this there were already two on this subject that got locked yesterday. Is it necessary to start yet another thread on this. People are not compelled to wear one, not wearing one does not equal lack of respect its personal choice as to whether you choose to wear one or not.
I really dislike the current mentality that seems to exist that wearing the poppy should be enforced it totally defeats the point of what it represents I.e those that died fighting for the freedom we have today yet it seems people are intent on trying to take away peoples personal choices so that makes wearing it a mockery as you are not respecting what is behind it. I've had family fight in the wars and who have been in the Armed Forces in recent years so have nothing but respect for the sacrifices made but equally do not believe you should be forced to show that respect by wearing a poppy if you don't wish to. |

I don't even know why we're even discussing it! This will probably be closed by mods as the last two were!

It has only been in recent years that we've had this level of - and I use the word deliberately - Gastapo levels of conformity in the wearing of the Poppy. When I was growing up no-one batted an eyelid if someone wasn't wearing one. |
