I don't see how having to count four votes is a struggle. A child can do it.

And most of us wouldn't present live TV - because we aren't presenters...like Olly.

Last night it was so bad it was funny. These two aren't right for the main show, either together or on their own they just don't have the professionalism to front it.

The thing is, you don't practice being a live TV presenter on Saturday/Sunday night primetime TV! But that's what these two are effectively doing. Caroline has been a reasonably adept presenter on other shows, but XF live is a different thing altogether, and she's not rising to the occasion. Ollie is so green at this he's practically Kermit! Again, expecting him to look like Dermot or Ant'n'Dec was a bit of a stretch and he's just not anywhere near ready to be presenting one of ITV's biggest shows. Also, what was with Ollie and Harry Styles - that was a very specific snub from both ends I saw there?! Was this about the whole Harry-Caroline exes thing?

I agree with those who say that Ollie's mistakes and nervousness seem to be infectious, and Caroline spends the entire show visibly jittery and worried looking. Neither of them look like they're enjoying this, it's just so uncomfortable to watch. It definitely brings into sharp focus how hard live TV actually is, and just how effortless Dermot made it look!

At this point, it would be a blessed relief to have someone else present, but that would be the final admission of failure for Simon, and he won't do that. So Ollie and Caroline will probably continue to be bollocked off-screen, leading to even more nerves and mistakes on screen! Last night was so bad my mum was actually in hysterics, laughing at the terribleness of the show! I've got to think that this was a reasonably common reaction to what was going on.

Of course people make mistakes, but these two are obviously being paid big bucks to present a show on prime time TV and should really do better then they have done, but they are completely out of their depth. But the blame lies with whoever employed them in the first place - I'm sure will put a new presenter in place next year.

this is meant to be one of the biggest TV shows in the UK

saying "mistakes happen" is really no excuse for the complete lack of professionalism, and altho last night was the worst they have been it wasn't exactly an isolated incident

cowell's nepotism is coming back to bite him big time

If there IS a next year! More and more, this just reeks of a show dying on its ar**! ITV getting The Voice will surely be the impetus to giving XF a break - and if Simon goes back to the US to try and revive the brand there (which he's now talking about - and Fox desperately need a reality show for their schedules given American Idol is finishing this year), he'll have a ready made excuse why he can't possibly dedicate any time to a UK version of the show. I said a little while ago that Britain's Got Talent would actually be a great autumn Saturday night show - it would just take a bold scheduler to switch it's timings and give Strictly some strong competition. Those BGT ratings are still very healthy looking!

Yes, the odd mistake can happen, but there have been several of them coupled with the lack of a natural presenting style from Olly.

He isn't doing it out of the goodness of his heart, he's being paid to do it, it's his job.

Plus, it's a bit daft to say you'd like to see posters on here try it, I'm sure for a few thousand quid an episode they probably would - mess up as much as they can, then spend the money.

They should swap Caroline and Olly with Rochelle and Melvin.

Why? Rochelle and Melvin are good on Xtra Factor as were Olly and Caroline. The live shows are obviously a whole different ball game to having a lark on the Xtra Factor.

Rochelle has presented This Morning and Children In Need plus presents a panel show (Sweat The Small Stuff), much more experience than Olly at least.

I think you can tell the pressure is getting to this pair and the more it does the more mistakes there making.
Its a shame really as you could clearly see how much he was shitting himself but the over apologising just added to the catalogue of errors, and once he told anyone to go over to his x factor I was grimacing at the screen. Luckily for olly this was all happening at the end one can only imagine what we would have been treated to had this happened earlier in the programme

I assumed she was talking to the people in her ear because she didn't catch the number they were reading to her, but who knows?

I wonder if Olly's gaffe will make 'It Will Be Alright On The Night'

It's the kind of clip you cringe at but can't help going back to watch again.

Almost on par with Rachel Crow's elimination

I thought Olly & Caroline were perfect together on Xtra Factor, they played off each other well and made me as a viewer feel at ease. However I have never cringed so much as when I was watching that live show last night!”

He's probably missing doing that, as you mentioned Dermot in your post, I noticed he did a cracking job on presenting Children In Need on Friday and it's very telling that the BBC knew only he could have stepped in at such short notice and do it, bravo to him.

Did you notice they changed the presenting style. There was more shots of just Olly or just Caroline. In the past they have stood together and shared the lines this time one started the link and switch to another shot the other finished the link. You can see the production staff know its not working so they are trying to change the presentation. At least they seem to be taking notice of the viewers opinions.

Anyone who is missing Dermot just had to watch Children In Need last Friday when he stood in for Sir Tel. You could see he was nervous for first hour or so but he presented in such a way it wee'd all over Olly and Caroline's x factor presentation.
