No British female pros - why?
Maybe it's because of the salaries. In comparison to a lot of positions on TV, Strictly pros are paid a fairly low amount. I'd imagine professionals from Eastern European countries would be more willing to accept it over British dancers.

I think that's correct.
Also good British pros will have teaching, touring commitments and can't just up sticks and live in London for three months.
Could it partly the premier league effect? It's noticeable that most of the recent recruited pros have been on the SCD/ DWTS shows elsewhere. Producers want someone who can show a track record of coaching novices week after week in competition and interview well in front of. A camera.
The Premier League effect is similar in that clubs recruit from other leagues. They run academies full of promising 17 or 18 year olds. Because they need results every week it's less risk to buy in a player who has been reliably performing in France a couple of seasons than finish the training of academy youngsters by giving them starting positions in league matches.

It's such fantastic promotion for them that I can't see they'd be worried about low wages. They can earn a lot more just by being associated with Strictly. How much an hour do James & Ola charge?
I imagine they pick, who they think, are the best or who will provide the best entertainment.

Ola's the only female pro from Eastern Europe.
They have tried to hire female English pros in recent years (Joanne, Emma) but because most of the recent hiring has been done via the network of Burn The Floor/DWTS (of whatever country) it's no surprise that the line-up is very international, with a bias towards those based in America.

just a tv thing and who has to be doing the selection of dancers at the time, at the moment the selection is BTF influenced of all the male/female pros on the show thinnk only Anton / Brendan/Giovanni /Ola/aliona who have not been part of show although Joanne only did a guest appearance for Australian tour
Ola has lived in the UK for a number of years, and did so before Strictly, so it could be argued that she ticks the British box rather than the Eastern Europe one.

Emma was going to be on SCD but swapped to DWTS because of her then BF Sasha Faber

I was including pros like Pasha, Aliona, Kristina, Gleb and Aljaz as coming from countries from Eastern Europe, which they aren't.

Males - Anton, Darren, Ian Waite, James Jordan, Robin, Kevin - I don't have time to trawl through all the list of Pro's but not that many Brit males either.
UK based dancers were recruited in the "early days" but even then they were mostly not British born.

I think Joanne Clifton should have been paired with someone this year, but they must have dropped out. We could certainly have done with one more decent male celebrity. Also (as noted by alan_tracy) the Strictly brand is such that there are shows like this going on all around the world. Jason Gilkison can have a pick of various international pros, female and male. Gleb Savchenko has already done Russia's Dancing With The Stars this year, I suspect the routines he's doing with Anita are similar to those he was doing in that shown.

Russia yes, but none of the "stan" states are in Eurovision. Azerbaijan are, but they're a recent addition and there was a lot of controverst about it.

Yes, had it in my head Russia counted as Eastern Europe.
Anyway, I think others are probably making more sense with their points than I am about salaries
