Funnily enough I had the same feeling when posting this week about a matter related to Remembrance Day. I was immediately attacked and noticed some very nasty responses to others who had made similar points. One respondent basically told me to shut up because what I said "got on their wick". DS eventually closed down debate on the general subject. I'm sure that's happened elsewhere, but it's the first time I've seen it in a forum to which I've contributed. Bottom line: More people like to be rude.

The other side of a screen is a safe place to be vile from.

As far as I can see, the only difference is an increase in the number of people who prefer to whinge about their fellow posters' contributions rather than discuss the programme.

I don't think its any different to how its always been. I think people find it worse when their personal favourite is one of those under attack.

After years of being on here the criticisms and negativity become predictable, the same patterns emerge every year and i find it easier to ignore if my favourite is in the firing line.

2013 was one of the worst I could remember. I even took a break in the middle of the series because it was too much; never had that many people on the Ignore list as at that time. As we came close to the finals, it got even worse so no this year is really, really tame imo.
Who knows ? Maybe it was because it was the year of the Woman which increased the bitchiness around these parts.”

very tame , this year , compared to Flavia @ Matt di Angelo year with the break up of

Peter Andre's inclusion as a celeb has attracted a lot of new posters to the SCD board. A lot of these posters have their own agenda and are only too delighted to seize any opportunity they can to put the boot in. I think this has had a negative effect on the board, there have been many anti-Andre threads on the showbiz board and I think that it's a shame that this venom has spilled onto the SCD one

Otherwise I think the threads are ok. I do wish sometimes that some posters would realise that it is possible to be a fan of, for example, A without slating B, C, D etc and belittling their fans.

If you think here was bad on that year you probably didn't see the BBC Strictly board the same year (I think the BBC board was open only one more year after that but got closed in 2008, IIRC). That place was absolutely vile. I remember one woman who thought herself to be Alesha's chief supporter, the things she used to say about Matt DA were unbelievable, it was almost she wanted to have him killed. Scary people out there.

It's always a bit like this, and very easy to get drawn into gladiatorial battles, to the death, infinity or beyond....

I really don't mind a bit of a tussle on the forums, but I don't like it when it gets excessively personal / vitriolic, eg bringing people's children and families into it or plainly unpleasant, especially when it's paraded under the guise of humour.

Why couldn't I have put it as succinctly as this? Perfect explanation, in my opinion.

A partial explanation, perhaps, rather than a perfect one. Jay, Kellie, Jamelia, and Helen have all had negative threads created about them too, and that can't be the work of new arrivals who have flocked to the board to stick the boot into Andre, can it?

Yes, but none of them already have a thread about them, like the one on the Showbiz forum, which appears to have been running since Adam was a lad. Constantly regurgitating every last little detail about Peter, in the most vicious way.

I've just read some of that thread, there are a lot of fans of a certain contestant over there being vicious about Peter. It's just so nasty and very childish.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm not getting the connection between negative threads on other contestants and the PA thread in Showbiz.

I don't disagree that PA being on the show this year may have lead to an an influx of posters to the SCD forum who, influenced by the anti-PA thread in Showbiz, want to use SCD to find new avenues via which to snark at him. But it doesn't explain the negative attention that other contestants are attracting too.

'Twas ever thus on here anyway. There's a nostalgic myth that it used to be all pink and fluffy. Indeed it was pink, briefly. But 'fluffy'? Nah. As someone pointed out earlier, the year of Bunton was a doozy.

I think it's a bit looking back through rose coloured glasses. Zoe took a lot of flack for maybe, possibly having started to have dance lessons before the official start time. Back in series 2 Denise took hits for being competitive (I always thought it was funny that she'd spent the summer being competitive trying to retain her Olympic title and this was good - but not only was she then expected to turn it off it became a thing that was bad).

To some degree the forum reflects the general mood of the actual show, a show that is terribly grumpy will give a grumpy forum - see the back end of series 5, all through series 6, peaking in series 7 and settling down for series 8.

That says it all for me .
I used to enjoy reading the non app thread but it's different this year, much less humour and too much dark negativity , so I can't be bothered with that auld carry on .

Definitely a tame year so far.

In fact, a lot of the nastier stuff is just the same tosh being regurgitated by the same posters every chance they get. Or somebody who starts a new thread not realising somebody else did the same thing about the same subject the week before - and off we go again.

There are a few new escapees from the dark side of DS though who I wouldn't like to meet down a dark alley.

If you read the Terms & Conditions of this forum you will see that openly criticising another thread is actually against the T&Cs?

Were you aware of this?

It is against the T&Cs of this forum to deliberately criticise another thread. Are you aware of this?

P.S Why read a thread that you dislike so much? Puzzled.

No mention of criticising other threads

though some of us on here seem to take the " post material that is deliberately intended to upset other users" as a challenge rather than a prohibition.

I like Karen, although I thought Jo and Natalie were great, especially Jo. I wasn't that keen on her before, but she seemed less immature or something on ITT.
