Hi All,
Just got a netgear aircard 785, it's great. I don't need to use a phone to tether, and I'm getting 3 bars which is great. I see there is a signal boosting cradle, anyone tried it? If so, did it improve the signal at all?

ok so come to realise, the signal boosting cradle only boosts the wifi signal. Is there anyway to boost 4g signal of the aircard?

Unfortunately if the unit doesn't have sockets for an external antenna(s) then there isn't much you can do. I live in a weak 4G area and find that the best signals are generally with the mifi on the window sill, sometimes even moving it a few inches either way on the window sill can add 1 bar of signal.

Mine also has the ability to set 4G only in the admin menu, this way I make sure that it doesn't automatically toggle itself between 4G and the stronger 3G signal.

There's lots of confusion out there as to whether the cradle does boost 4G signal - my understanding is that it is supposed to, not just the wifi signal.

Failing that, you can buy an external antenna for the Aircard. Mine works, but it's not a monumental difference. Some people seem to see very little benefit though.

if you had to pick, the dock or antenna, which one would you pick?

Well, I haven't got a dock so I can't compare the two as such - I chose an antenna as it gave me more flexibility and I could mount it outside the window, with the actual unit inside. For me, the dock would be more limiting.

As I said, I do see a few dB improvement when I use the antenna but I've read reviews from many people who've seen no difference at all. It seems a bit pot luck.
