Supermarket Chicken Kievs ?
Is there any supermarket where I can get some decent Chicken Kievs ?
The kind with a generous amount of garlic and parsley butter, which doesn't leak out all over the oven tray ! I'm fed up of cutting into a chicken kiev and finding an empty space where the filling should be ! |

But yes, I cant remember now but you can buy them where they are actual chicken breasts, not reformed chicken, with a bone still in it. |

They don't exist.
As the kiev heats up it expands & the filling escapes. Try a raw chicken breast, make a slit and pack it with garlic & herb butter, wrap the breast tightly in parma ham or suchlike and either pan fry or oven bake. Really nice |

The ones from Waitrose are lovely and made using chicken breast, not reformed gubbins.

asda for a while were using foil trays as the packaging for their kievs , so you just peeled the film off and cooked them in the tray , meant no worries about leaks , they stopped doing it after a couple of months tho
as an aside, tesco used to do a mozzarella, basil and sundried tomato version of a kiev that was yummy, not sure if they still do them tho |

I ordered Chicken Kievs the other day for home shopping, and guess what they gave me as a substitute?
Meat free Kievs. rolleyes The only good thing about them was that the filling stayed inside. |

You get what you pay for.
Go for the Extra Special or equivalent range rather than the bog standard. Reiterating the point about those better quality ones using a whole breast and not reformed. Usually you get more butter as well so although it will melt you should get better flavour. |

I went in to a Farmfoods for the first time. I bought some mini ones. They were ok. I deep fried them not oven cooked as the oven was on the blink. The sauce stayed in and was quite thick. I would buy them again if I ever went to that shop again.

Agree about Waitrose's, but these from Sainsbury's come a close second ~ Sainsbury's Garlic Fillet Kievs 400g

I always cook them upside down, so the curved side holds the liquid in. They're usually cooked when the liquid starts to escape anyway, so keep a close eye on them. I usually cook them in a pyrex lid so I can pour any liquid back on top.
