Bring back the Dance Fusion
Polly-T

SCD did a Dance Fusion one year (I think the year Louis won? ) and it was not only a great TV spectacle but also very interesting to see how the professionals choreographed two different dance styles into one song.

I would love to see that return one week during the season

I loved it too, not sure why it got such a hammering. Flavia choreographed a beautiful routine - Paso and Tango if I remember correctly?

I really enjoyed it too - we got some great dances that week. Love Kim's Tango/Cha Cha fusion to It's Raining Men.

That was one of my favourite dances, I have it saved in my YouTube "Strictly" playlist and rewatch it regularly.

I'd prefer the reintroduction of dance fusion to a Quickstepathon, especially if the couples had to include the dance they'd be otherwise dropping as half of their fusion. That way we'd get to see at least some of every dance by the eventual finalists.

It's ok unless you get stitched up with the 2 dance styles like Nicky Byrne (Samba/American Smooth ) - there should be some sort of fair way of deciding them. Probably still preferable to a Quickstepathon though, at least for the viewers. One thing I wouldn't mind seeing them try from DWTS is the team dance one week - it would be interesting to see how our pros would work together to choreograph etc.

Bring it back please SCD producers.

Was it Alesha's series where they had one piece of music and the contestants each had to perform a different dance to it?

I've never watched DWTS. Do you mind me asking what is a team dance?

They do it when there are 8 couples left (I think) and they divide them into 2 teams. They are each given a song and choreograph a mini group dance to it (I think its freestyle). They usually have synchronised sections and each couple does a solo bit. The team who wins gets extra points. Its interesting to see how the teams work together, but I guess it has the potential for unfairness like all these things.

I'm not a fan of Dance Fusion.

They seem to have difficulty picking the right music for a single dance, so picking the right music for 2 and allocating the correct dance pairs is asking too much from TPTB.

There would be unfairness in dances/music combinations.

Thank you.

I adored the Fusion, but I think it should be "one learned, one unlearned", and maybe have the learned dance be one that needs improvement. So:

Jay: Cha-Cha/Foxtrot
Anita: Charleston/Quickstep
Kellie: Paso Doble/Argentine Tango
Katie: Quickstep/Samba
Jamelia: Salsa/Quickstep
Peter: Rumba/American Smooth
Jeremy: American Smooth/Paso Doble
Georgia: Rumba/Foxtrot
Helen: Rumba/Argentine Tango

But on that list, Kellie and Anita (or Kevin and Gleb in terms of choreography) would have a much easier job than Jay or Jamelia for example. It doesn't sound very fair.

I didn't hate the idea on paper, but in action it handicapped certain couples too much & would be open to manipulation later on because of that.

I think the only way you could do it would be to assign complimentary dances early on and each couple to have to dance one of those pairings. Or have all the couples do the same dance fusion making it a choreography off for the pros (although they would be hampered by song choice ofc, but still - it would be a little fairer.)

I'd rather that than the waltzathon etc which is annoyingly crooked every season.

I'd rather have it than the waltzathon. Really enjoyed Kimberley & Pasha's chango!

I would love for it too return seeing as the only dance fusion spawned one of my all time fave routines Kims cha cha / tango that was just incredible. I almost cried when she got the perfect 40 because it felt so deserved!

Yes I agree. I don't object to it in principle but thre needs to be some arbitration to ensure the styles mesh. Some of them mash up like an onion in chocolate sauce.

I loved it as Kimberley got the first 40 of that series and she was so happy! Her dance fusion was fab too.

The whole thing would be very unfair. Impossible to compare the contestants.

Pasha and Kimberley managed to morph back and forth between the styles more than once, but I can't remember if any of the others managed that.

IIRC, the majority of couples switched in and out of styles throughout but one or two - I'm thinking definitely Lisa Riley here - danced half the time in one style then half in the other style rather than mixing it up frequently.

That was definitely Lisa and it was particularly dire choreography at the same time. IIRC correctly there were also a couple of them where it was felt like about 90% one style and 10% t'other.

I wasn't a fan.
