I thought it reviewed quite well? and plenty of people on twitter and other forums say the game is excellent. It was always going to suffer because of the timing. Fallout 4 last week and Battlefront this week, as someone said on here before, they would have been better releasing this in September.

The annoying thing with TR for me was between its first reveal and the second showing it became an XB1 exclusive. I doubt the deal would have got as much stick if the deal was announced when the game was first announced.

Personally not a fan of these deals. When I lose out on content I feel hard done by and when a deal favours the system I use I just don't notice. With the quality of extra content I have seen and played it wouldn't in any way influence me buy the other system or the game on a different system to what I had planned. If I was a COD fan I would buy the game on the system my friends were playing on, not the system which got a map pack first. For me it seems a colossal waste of money on Sony and MS' part.

I would love to play TR sooner rather than later but I am not buying an XB1 to play it. I have plenty of other games to keep me occupied until it finally arrives on PS4.

Yes, that's why it would be unfair if CD or SE decided to scrap the ip purely on the basis of sales. And, regardless of Fallout, I don't think anyone anticipated that the sales figures would be so low.

They must knew the figures won't be as good just being on the one console, so I doubt they'd drop the ip. The money MS gave them probably more than covers any loss.

As for what MS got out of it, I think they were spooked by Uncharted 4 (which was originally slated for 2015) and wanted an adventuring exclusive of their own to put up against it. As it turns out the needn't have bothered. It has strengthened their Christmas line-up, but it seem that not many people are bothered so far. Perhaps the Xbox One Tomb Raider bundle will keep the game in the charts over the coming weeks.”

It probably did spook MS but I think it would also have spooked Crystal Dynamics by going up against Uncharted at the same time on the same system.

We have no idea if Sony approached Activision or if it was the other way around. It is entirely possible that Activision refused to renew a deal with MS based on the widening sales gulf between the two consoles and the better than PS2 numbers that the PS4 is achieving.

I want to play it but can't afford Xbox One when I already got a PS4.. hate these exclusives when the console costs so much to buy.

Exclusives and competition are good for the industry....

I doubt Activision offered Sony that deal for free. Sony will have paid for the deal, pointlessly as far as I am concerned.

I'm sure Sony paid for it but we don't know if there was say a bidding war between Sony and MS to secure exclusivity. The deal seemed good enough for MS to boast about for the last 6 or so years but seemed salty when the PlayStation/Activision deal was announced.

From what I've heard, BO3 seemes to be the best COD for quite a while so maybe the deal will be worth it as word of mouth spreads and BO3 will be in the top 10 or 20 for sales over the next 10 months.

With games such as COD and Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, the exclusive content that the PS4 has had is usually DLC type stuff (extra side quests, maps, weapons etc) With RotTR, this was a full game.

I think a lot of people have hit it on the head that MS was spooked with Uncharted 4 scheduled for release at the end of this year. So threw a chunk of change to get this timed exclusive

I get that there are exclusives on both consoles, but the norm is usually titles from a new IP (The Last of Us, Uncharted, Halo, The Order 1886) Consumers get annoyed when its an IP they probably have played on their preferred console only for it to be closed of to them. I'm talking as PS and Tomb Raider fan.

Was I annoyed that RotTR was an Xbox exclsuive? Yes, but I knew that I had Unchartered 4 to look forward to.

I think that CD, depending on the finances etc, may now realise that it was fools folly to have MS as the exclusive first run. I think MS may also see that this may not have paid off as they wanted. I do hope its not the end of the franhise as I really liked Tomb Raider and will probably pick up this when it is released next year. (Providing that there is no sequel to The Last of Us out at the Same time)

I think the reboot did pretty well, or so I remember. I think the release of Fallout 4 may have also hit sales.

i am sure i read an interview with makers 2 years ago where they said TR was a critical hit but not commerical, they said that wa sok for a reboot first isntallment

must want to make money on this one though, i hope MS paid alot because limiting sales seems a silly idea

It sold 3.4 million in it's first month, and up to now has sold 8.5 million (according to PC gamer). That's including definitive edition. It was Square Enix that said it was disappointed with the sales, which makes me wonder what on earth they expected it to sell if that was a disappointment. That is the reason i'm so concerned over the sales of this one.

They said at the time that they were expecting COD numbers.

Then they were fools to expect those numbers. I love the Tomb Raider reboot, but it takes something very special to compete with CoD (sales wise).

Really? From what I've heard, Black Ops III is awful...

Can it not be awful and also the best in a while ?

I mean that series has set the bar pretty low.

Square Enix don't care about the sales of Rise of the Tomb Raider because they made their money through the exclusive with X Box. That is why they're more than happy to release it alongside Fallout and COD.

MS will care, as they published the game. Think about this: MS would have paid SE a percentage to cover lost sales through exclusivity; either they expected the game to do well, or they expected the game to do badly and paid them accordingly. Either way, how has this worked out well for MS ?

Yeah can't really explain that one. The only theory I have is that what sales the game will make will outweigh the cost. But clearly SE and Microsoft had very little faith in how gamers would take to it after disappointing sales for the reboot.

It's a shame this isn't selling well as it's my pick for Game of the Year by an absolute landslide.

But the reasons for not selling well were obvious and it's entirely Squre Enix's fault that their ego led them to believe that their game (which was a console exclusive) would do just as well if not better than Fallout 4 which released the exact same day. I mean I much prefer this type of game to Fallout but even I know Fallout was by far and away the most hyped game this year, even beating out CoD and Battlefront.

Bit of a downer to hear about low sales for this game. Not sure if it's because of timing and the XB1 exclusive being the reasons. I loved the reboot and I'll definitely be picking this up when it eventually releases for PC. Would hate to see this being scrapped. It's Tomb Raider for crying out loud. Why is it selling so poorly?

It really is all because of Fallout. Fallout had so much hype and advertisement surrounding it that it totally eclipsed Tomb Raider's release entirely, some of my friends were surprised I had Tomb Raider as they weren't aware it had been released and were dumbfounded when I told them it was released alongside Fallout 4.

Not to mention, that for those who were aware of both releases, Fallout 4 was still the most talked about prior to launch by an absolute mile, so most people would likely have picked up Fallout if they had to choose one over the other due to their friends also likely wanting to play Fallout.

And then the fact that there was no PC or PS4 launch obviously took a massive chunk out of the sales as well, especially when you consider that Xbox One has the smallest consumer base out of all 3 of those platforms. It really was that pairing of publisher choices from Square Enix that moreorless doomed this until the inevitable PS4 and PC release.

I don't think this will be the last of this franchise, surely even they have to know that it's not because of game quality that this game sold poorly.
