Allen Toussaint at age 77.
I remember "Working In The Coal Mine" by Lee Dorsey.
This thread won't be up for long, but he was very influential for decades.

I've heard of him. He was apparently all set for doing a set this weekend at the London Jazz Festival

I know the song, "Working in a Coal Mine" which featured in Martin Scorsese's "Casino".

More recently, I came across and loved his piano instrumental version of "Cast Your Fate To The Wind" which also featured in another Scorsese film, "The Wolf of Wall Street". I remember the song was played over the closing credits.

Another good one: Get Out Of My Life, Woman

Sampled by a number of hip-hop dignitaries, and the Gorillaz...

RIP Allen Toussaint.

Sad news indeed.....I must admit to never having heard of him until I bought a LateNightTales compilation by Snow Patrol and came across this track and loved it!
