it was comparing shows from 4 weeks ago not last weekend

the results shows on sunday had a 3M gap in SCD's favour iirc

personally i dont care about the rivalry between the 2 shows , i've never watched strictly and never will , for me the important comparison is ratings last year to this year and x factor has lost something like 20% of its viewers in 12 months

Yeah and if you add in Strictly's repeat viewings and catch up, it'll jump ahead again.

Plus, the article is wrong. ITVHD and+1 ARE reported in Overnights. For some reason they've deiced to exclude them to make it look like ITV was watched by a lot more on catch up than it was.

Not that including ITV+1 is fair anyway, given there is no BBC+1.

Further to that, the comparison is a month old when X Factor was airing its strongest shows whereas Strictly had its pre-recorded results, I believe there was only 400,000 between the two (inc ITV+1). Now they're both airing similar live shows and results that gap has increased to 3-4 million.

The article refers to the October 4 shows - it counts all possible sources that people may could have watched the shows since, i.e. ITV+1 and Hd etc, but it crucially omits the figures for BBC Iplayer, the only source people would have to catch up on Strictly other than recording, seeing as there is no repeats and no +1 for the BBC. So in effect this is just some pathetic number games to make X Factor look better.

All false stats.

Haha at the end of the day Strictly is being watched LIVE, its a fun, feelgood program the typical Saturday night show that XFactor used to be

like many we watch on sky plus minus all the ads, talkover and rubbish

Didn't Cowell also say "if you round up 6.5m, it's 10m"?

They are so desperate it's too sad to laugh at anymore.

Article doesn't take into account iPlayer views of Strictly which is probably a lot more the ITV catchup

If the calculation wasn't, as it seems to be:

BBC 1 vs ITV, ITV+1, ITV Player, Catch-up

but instead

BBC 1, BBC iPlayer, Catch-up vs ITV, ITV+1, ITV Player, Catch-up

...I suspect it wouldn't look too pretty for ITV. I'm also continuously sceptical about these additional viewer numbers apparently watching online. It's still a mystery why ITV isn't singing this massive flow of online traffic from the roof tops rather than letting spurious mentions leak out anonymously to the press. Something definitely doesn't sit right with that.

Not least because watching anything on ITV Player online is enough to make your eyes and ears bleed. Compared to the BBC iPlayer it's truly a terrible service with awful picture and awful sound quality.

Load of tosh.

Strictly is thrashing it's arse and rightly so.

So happy for X Factor it's clears it's still the top reality tv show! Look at the charts look at the column inches look at who the young people are talking about ! We all know to the show everyone still talks about! People just watch it now in different ways! I wish it went back to the times it was on at 2008-2010 - starting at 7pm was much better

Are you from Syco?

The stats used in the OP's linked article make for a one-sided, unfair comparison using one single date from a month ago when the two shows were airing different types of episodes (less people tend to catch up on a results show, especially a pre-recorded one)

Since then, X Factor's numbers have gone down - it's latest Sunday show at 6.98m v the 7.12m quoted in the article, whereas Strictly has surged - 10.43m for latest Sunday v 7.83m for Strictly's show in the article.

at the end of the day Strictly will never be as high as X factor at its peak. Cant really see it amassing over 17million viewers (peaking at 19.4million) no matter how many seasons it has. Regardless of its current state x factor has overall been the more succesful show

I think that makes the situation worse, to lose so many viewers and now getting trounced by it's main rival is scant consolation to say it used to have such a big audience, it just highlights the rapid decline in the programme.,

Dancing with the Stars airs worldwide too, including in the US where X Factor was axed.

Um, Dancing With The Stars and it's countless other inceptions around the world?!! I think you'd struggle to make a statement like that if you looked at all of Strictly's overseas shows as well. I think they're both licenced to 40-odd countries worldwide but, crucially, most of those territories are still showing their versions of Strictly. Quite a number have since dropped XF (many western European countries and notably the USA). Strictly (DWTS) remains a major player in a lot of those territories, especially USA. In terms of global audience numbers, I've no idea - perhaps someone has those figures, but you certainly can't say XF is more popular. That's just not true. It's not true here, it's DEFINITELY not true in the US - and that's the overseas territory that really matters, let's be honest!

Where in the world do they broadcast strictly UK? I meant UK xfactor is being followed by other countries... and strictly UK is barely hitting 20K hits on youtube.

I think Mr Cowell must have went to the same school as Iain Bunkum Smith.

You think X Factor UK is broadcast worldwide?

The only reason it probably has more YouTube hits is people getting stick to death of the overly produced programme that they just want to hear the performances on their own without the nonsense.
