Hoping that week happens again this year!

What songs would you like to see used??

For a samba I would love to see "Ai se eu te pego" from Portugual used! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lONZoqEQ5m0

For a salsa, another song from Portugal: Gustava Lima. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_E_CTWoiZQ - such a fun song!

anyone got any more?

I'd like an Around the World Week if it was actually an Around the World Week, and not just a week with some songs with countries in the title that kind-of-but-not-really suit the dances but can be passed as working because it's a theme week.

(ie. last year, only two songs were actually from their specific countries, and that was USA. And... both songs had either USA or a place in USA in the title, so the producers were probably feeling very pleased with themselves for the double connection they had miraculously made.)

Please NO!

Not until someone culturally sensitive vets each dance for inappropriate content. I still haven't gotten over the Bavarians (PIxie and Trent) Viennese waltzing through the streets of Amsterdam yet!

Not so sure about this. Last year it worked in some couples' favour (for example Caroline and Pasha's Turkish Charleston worked brilliantly). On the other hand Jake and Janette's Greek Argentine Tango was an awful idea.

Sorry to be a pedant, but none of those songs are Portuguese, they are Brazilian. It happens that Portuguese is spoken in Brazil AND Portugal, hence the confusion about Brazilian/Portuguese music (they couldn't be more different). The first song is actually a rhythm called "Forro" and it is as miles away from a Samba as it can be. But for a show that has Sambas danced to every kind of music bar the real one, it wouldn't be impossible. Just that the song is pure crap, it's actually the lowest of the low.

The second is also a pile of crap and it is some sort Lambada, not Samba, but it could work for a Salsa at a push.

Brazil has got some classic Samba tunes but these two songs exemplify everything that is wrong with Brazilian music nowadays. Sorry to burst your bubble.

For real Samba, dance and music, check this video. The quality is not so good but you can see it well enough:

Well I am a dancer and think they work well. The second one definitely works as a samba, and it could work as a slower salsa.

My apologies about getting confused about where they are from. I actually study Portuguese so I am fully aware that Portuguese is spoken in Brazil, too...

Maybe next time phrase your response a little less rude. I was just suggesting music.

I'm not a dancer, but I appreciate good music.

Work they might, crap they still are. And to see this sort of plague spread outside the country...well, I think the world has got enough problems as it stands at the moment.

Beat wise, I would switch the two. I don't think the second would work as a Salsa. Definitely not Cuban or Cross-Body but even if you dance it Colombian style; it would still look way off-beat as the music is more Merengue. However, you could dance Hustle to it and since SCD clearly classifies the Hustle as Salsa [Disco Salsa, per Len]; then, yeah, why not?
