Buster Eastenders
Buster is a character with Potential. Karl Howman is a decent actor. However is he being wasted as a character?. Have they failed to build on his arrival. We hardly see many Buster and Shirley scenes and Mick and Buster haven't built many bridges either.

I completely agree! Buster/Karl Howman is a great addition to the show, one of the best castings but he doesn't seem to be being utilised all that well.
Both Buster and Shirley are caught in this rape story and it isn't really allowing for a lot of progression. I had hoped that we would meet a sibling, or parent of Buster's. (I'd rather he didn't have secret children because I like that he has supposedly been a drifter and has come into the show without previous baggage that is unknown). I would also like his relationship/history with Shirley to be developed more, Karl Howman and Linda Henry work really well together but their scenes are few and far between. Their heart to heart this year, and scenes when Buster first arrived were fantastic, and I would like more scenes like this with them. I would also like to see Buster and Mick getting to know one another, maybe this will begin to happen once Dean has left? I know Shabs will most likely end up with custody of Jade but I would also like to see both Buster and Shirley involved with Jade when/if she moves to the square. What happened to Buster getting even with Vincent? He was talking with Phil about it? |

That's true the Vincent and Buster stuff disappeared. They definitely need to build on his relationship with both Shirley and Mick . Love a family member to show up too.

I had hoped DTC would redeem the Dean character by making him recognise and accept he had raped Linda and to hand himself in for justice. Buster could have played an active part in that turn around / therapy because Shirley was incapable of this at first because she immediately believed Dean and thought Linda was just having an affair. Buster could have also brought Shirley over to his way of thinking. Buster has played the "rape - fling" situation fairly distantly - supporting Shirley but showing signs of doubting Dean.
But instead of this it seems that ...
Spoiler
Remember at the time Dean raped Linda he was mentally all over the place regarding issues associated with his mother and jealousy issues over Linda - Mick having a perfect family. |

I'd love to see more of him. Sadly the focus is on the older ladies and he hardly gets a look in.

It would be a big shame axing him. Definitely storyline possibility for the character

Expect he is the one who gets Shirley to accept Dean raped Linda. He strongly suspects it now.

Dean is leaving and Shirley will be getting her comeuppance. Buster is bound to leave her so she can roll around in the gutter once more. The truth is Buster hasn't brought much of anything to the show. He and Mick are a non starter, Dean is going and Shirley works better as a loner. Buster is about to reach the end of the road. |

It funny considering the mystery that was put on him when he was announced the little that has been done at him, his a significant part of Shirley's life far greater the most of her relationships, she had two kids with him over a few years yet they've done little to invest in them.

I agree with most of the posts on this thread. I really like the character of Buster and wish that he was given more screen time and a proper storyline of his own.

Hopefully Karl Howman will stay with the show and they will begin to develop Buster more in his own right, and his relationships with Shirley/Mick. It's like has been said above, he is a significant part of Shirley's past, and I thought they would have invested in him more. They could have easily brought in Reggie (the guy Buster mentioned when Mick and Dean brought him to the square), he sounded like a rival, or the storyline with Vincent, plus they could easily cast a sibling for him, or parent. So much potential.
