@SimonCowell: Another question. What would be your favourite theme for an X Factor week. This is for two weeks time.

@SimonCowell: Some of the ideas you sent are very funny. And a lot of good ideas. Thanks again. Simon

Of course One Direction week was the most common reply...

i still think the theme is becoming more and more irrelevant, i want them to have themes and in theory the themes for the first two weeks were great, but the song choices that went along with those themes and the tenuous links to the themes were confusing at best

until they sort out the issues of how they select the songs, how wide the song options are, and the suitability of the song and way it is arranged to suit the contestant then things will continue to be a mess

to me the type of themes they had the last 2 weeks were exactly the sort of themes the show should have.

week one "this is me", in theory the perfect opportunity for the acts to showcase the direction they want to go.

week 2 "re-invention", an opportunity to show artistry and individuality by taking a well known song and doing it their way, as much as the line "you made it your own" gets used on the show, it very rarely applies.

both themes ruined by confusing song choices and dated arrangements

having said all that if the raw talent isn't there then it really doesn't matter

Well the best one on paper should have been 'This Is Me' which they did in week one, however it went down like a lead balloon. They all had the perfect opportunity to show who they would be as artists, however most of them completely messed that up. The only other decent one I can think of is one that allows them to sing their own songs that they've written...that should show you the weak from the real artists.

I blame the producers and simon for the "This is Me" disaster. half of them were given a song they didn't know, that's so far from this is me

The themes have been dreadful this year...

'This Is Me' - More than half of them were given songs they had never heard of.

'Reinvention Week' - How can you reinvent an artist we've barely come to know?

the themes were fine

how the show did them was terrible

The problem with the themes so far is that they don't appear to have been communicated properly to the judges. The first week we had some doing "this is me" as someone who I admire and others taking it as this is the type of artist I want to be.

Then last week some seemed to think it was the reinvention of the song and others took it as reinvention of the performer.

I'd like them to keep the themes broad. No specific artists like MJ or Elton John. But they need to interpret the theme properly without tenuous links, or at least all interpret it in the same way.

They should do a live lounge week where the finalists go through the radio 1 YouTube and pick a performance to copy.

Oh wait.

Seriously though I actually didn't mind the first two themes it's just how they were executed. How can you go out and sing a song and make a point of this being me if you have never heard it before??? For that week at least the contestants should have pitched to the judges (producers) what they would have liked to do.

Has anyone suggested 'Sabotage' yet? Contestants have to sing inappropriate songs that highlight their weak points.

Anton: opens the show with Sabotage by The Beastie Boys.
Monica follows with a scantily clad rendition of Smell Yo D*** by Riskay.
4th Impact - full nine minute rendition of O Superman by Laurie Anderson
Ché picks up the tempo with a soulful rendition of Red Hot Car by Squarepusher
Max - reggae-lite version of Nessun Dorma accompanied by dancers dressed as Pavarotti
Reggie & Bollie - straight cover of Fitter Happier by Radiohead

etc etc

Louisa closes the show with a duet with Beyoncé. Simon insist it's a 'little risky but I think it's going to work, besides Beyoncé begged' while mentioning his arm is in a sling due to his intervention in 'one of Anton's child murdering sprees'

After 11 Season of X factor
i kinda want for a "X Factor Week"
song themes are songs from X factor alumni

'This is Me' would have been a good chance for the judges to have no say - the contestants get to pick what they sing, to showcase who they are

Well, how about singing the song while performing a classic ballroom dance routine ? That'll get the viewing figures up...

Seriously, the majority of the songs that will be performed up to the final have been shortlisted and arranged, with backing tracks pre-recorded, choreography mapped out etc etc. To invite the public to 'pick a theme' is basically admitting that they can force whatever song into whatever theme.
On that note God help Anton, in case TPTB finally find a film that contains Agadoo somewhere in the background...

dont give them the idea to change "songs from the movies" week to "songs from adverts"

How can they do "This is Me" when the contestants barely know the song beforehand? Thats not fair at all.

It all depends on how Cowell defines the word movie. There is currently an excellent short film that is shown frequently on TV staring Gary Lineker about bringing back crisps. That definitely features agadoo!

Gender swap.

Boys have to sing tracks originally sung by females, girls have to sing tracks originally by males.

I like the X Factor alumni idea, but they did on Idol and ended up being tenuous and singing songs that Idol alumni had famously covered on the show! So we'd end up with someone singing Listen because Alexandra Burke did too on X Factor! Of course covers released should count, but not ones sang on the show. But it could be good:

Louisa: Secret Love Song by Little Mix
Lauren: Run by Leona Lewis
Monica: Do You Think Of Me? by Misha B

4th Impact: Black Magic by Little Mix
Reggie & Bollie: Kiss You by One Direction (idek, they'll murder whatever they do)

Che: No Promises by Shayne Ward
Mason: You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You by James Arthur

Anton: That's My Goal by Shayne Ward
Max: a reggae version of something

I'd like to see them given the challenge of writing their own songs

i would like a lucky dip theme

the producers put a bunch of songs into a hat , each contestant draws out a ticket and whichever song is on the ticket they draw they have to perform

couldn't be any worse at matching songs to contestants than they do already

Iron Maiden Week.

Let's face it, the audience numbers are tumbling and at least people will tune in for a laugh

They don't have enough songs to make a theme of.
