Coronation Street: I cannot stand Allya Nazir
Here in the US they just aired the episode where Allya told Gary that she slept with Jason and I have to say this was the first time I ever wanted to fast forward through scenes on Corrie. Allya is hands down the worst character on the show, she is stuck up, annoying and unsympathetic. She spent the past month whining about sleeping with Jason now she finally tells Gary and she's shocked that he wants to nothing to do with her. Also the girl that plays Allya cannot act to save her life, the scene where she told Gary the truth was painful to watch with Allya's poor attempt at crying. Also why is her family mad at her for sleeping with someone? She is a grown ass woman and if she isn't a virgin when she gets married so what?
I know a lot of people think Michelle, Sean and Fiz are the worst characters on Corrie but I'd take all of them over the horrible Allya. |

Me too, I don't get why she gets so much hate, especially when there are characters like Allya on the street.
The girl who plays Alya is dreadful in the role. Having said that - the character is so totally dull - maybe the actress herself just gets bored with her that she sleepwalks through the part. |

Me three! From what I've read (and I guess you can take that with a pinch of salt) the actress herself isn't that nice a person - but she does do a fantastic job of the part of Michelle - she makes her very believable for the most part.

I think the problem with Alya and Gary run deeper than just this rubbish story line and reveal and that is that they are the most unsuited couple in the show in the history of soap possibly EVER. The obsession in soaps regarding making sure that no one is single for long and pairing everyone off often results in annoying and ridiculous couples but to have a beautiful, educated and ambitious young woman paired off with the uneducated thug and petty criminal is truly just a step too far. Alya probably finds it difficult to act because it's just too much of a make believe.

I like Michelle, Fiz and Sean more than Alya. I really dislike Alya she is by far my worst character on the show at the moment.

LOL I don't think they are the worst couple on soaps, I think that title currently belongs to Debbie and Ross on Emmerdale. Gary and Allya lack chemistry but they were bearable before this story started. The problem with them is Allya herself, she is not a sympathetic character, her character is very underdeveloped and she is played by a sub par actress.

I've warmed to the older Nazirs, but I agree with the criticism of Alya. She seems an insubstantial character somehow, as if TPTB didn't know what to do with her, so they've thrown her into this unconvincing relationship with Gary. I really cannot believe that they would plan to get married so soon, or indeed at all. And you'd think that the grandparents would be relieved that anything stopped her from such an unsuitable marriage, with such a ghastly mother-in-law. Even the 'dishonour' of sex with Jason would be better than a lifetime with Gary (and Anna).
All the time she was meant to be suffering from the pain of knowing what she had done, she looked more as if she were suffering from mild constipation. I don't think acting is her strong point. |

Hmm as much as I dislike the pairing of Debbie and Ross I think they are very plausible as a couple in that 2 people like that could very easily get together in real life. However, Gary and Alya would simply never ever get together in real life. They are the worst pairing in soap history in that they are the most unbelievable.

On paper Debbie and Ross make sense but they lack chemistry and the story has destroyed both characters. The pairing of Gary and Allya has been pretty harmless, I'm confused though, why do you think this pairing would never happen? . . . .
As for destroying Debbie and Ross nothing could destroy Debbie seeing as she is the utter dregs anyway. Ross has certainly been brought down since being with her. My favourite ever Ross scene was when he lead Debbie on then when she inevitably threw herself at him he said no thanks ![]()

LOL ok, I must have missed that, IMHO Allya is far from attractive, she reminds me of one of those Furby toys from back in the day. As for being educated, if she had her sh!t together she would be more than Carla's personal assistant. I also think you're being too hard on Gary, he's a good guy whose mad a few mistakes in life but he always working and trying to take care of his family, what more can you ask of someone? Personally I think Gary is too good for Allya.
As for Debbie/Ross ITA and the scene where he turned her down is one of my favorites ![]() ![]() Having said they are very cute so maybe Re Alya and Gary all I mean is in real life there is no way those 2 would get together and even in Corrie it felt forced and preposterous. Like you said no chemistry. I grudgingly think Debbie and Ross have chemistry but I just hate everything about them being put together. |

I don't mind Alya usually, although I hate the Jason storyline.

I love Alya, one of the sexist women on t'street, but she didn't do herself any favours (favors for our US poster) with the confession to Gary. FGS Alya just shut up and keep it to your self, Quote:
Nope, right now its about a week and half behind, normally its only a week behind but because of all the extra episodes they have been having its pushed the us back a bit.
Out of interest, which channel(s) is/are Corrie shown on in the US Quote:

Out of interest, which channel(s) is/are Corrie shown on in the US Last time I was in Canada (a good four or five years ago) Corrie was about 6 months behind, but they were showing more episodes per week than the UK so guess they must have caught up by now. |
