That's where you and many others miss the point completely.

It is not all about the result to me - do you really think I didn't already know that Jay & Aliona would win this poll hands down before I constructed it?? Of course I did. Jay breaking wind against any other dance would win here so a victory for him is in no doubt at all. That is why I have said since Week 3, time without number, that assuming this forum reflects the opinion of the general public, Jay will win Strictly. Betting men should only think about who will come second - but even then I was practically shot down with shouts of "you can't assume anything".

What is far more interesting is the mix of opinions being offered. After all, this is a discussion forum and, as the saying goes "it's good to talk". For example, one poster declared this poll "very flawed". Whilst I respect his/her opinion, I do not share it. How can something based purely on opinion (NOT fact) be "flawed"? Is nothing on this earth allowed to go up against the "great" Jay?? On another note, Nina said Peter's Charleston would have beaten any other of Jay's dances apart from the jive - that opinion will not be shared by many here. Another said (honestly) they simply prefer a jive to the charleston - so they based their vote on dance-based reasons. And so it goes...

THAT is why I bother...

J&A - 7/10
P&J - 9/10

Completely disagree with this bit. Jay's characterisation was absolutely spot on and required acting skills. Jay may be laid back but not as much as the character he was portraying. Whereas Peter was OTT with his wide open mouth gurning. It's something anyone could do but not so many could repeat Jay's character so accurately.
I would reverse those marks.

Jay and Aliona's jive, no contest.
And by the way, referring to your post OP where you state that Jay's jive was 'more of an impression of an iconic movie scene', and so not as original, with respect, this is not true at all! Have you actually really watched the Pulp Fiction scene youre referring to, at all recently? They weren't actually even doing a jive there! As far as I can see, they were doing a kind of 'twist', and deliberately dancing badly as both characters in the movie were meant to be stoned!! There is barely any similarity between the dances, apart from the costumes/ scene reference. How many times after Jay's jive did I see the odd person whinge 'oh but they just copied the steps from Pulp Fiction'- that's utter nonsense!
In the movie they didn't dance to the 'Miserlou' bit anyway.
And...breathe.
I don't think Peter's Charleston was that original anyway- plenty of people have done similar steps and sequences in theirs.

😑😑 My comment was slightly in jest....not to be taken too seriously hence the emoticon. Not sure why you took my comment and grouped it with what others might have said 😑 " you and many others "

Like someone else said, Jay's jive will stand the test of time. It was perfect : great technique, perfect music , costume, characterization. .. everything just came together on that night. He and Aliona looked like 2 professionals on that dance.
Peter's Charleston was very good but a tad overmarked; especially given the fact that on Len's Lens it was blatantly obvious that there were a few synchronization issues.

The two dances are not even worthy of being compared imo but since they're the highest scoring dances of the competition so far I guess I can understand the comparison

Bit of a pointless thread when jay only has to push his bottom lip out like a toddler wanting a biccy for the ovaries to ping all across the threads in a mass nurturing glow visible from outer space

Aw Heatherbell.

You keep saying this, but the more you say it, the more it sounds like you're the one with the objectivity issues, rather than those who you think can't see past their ovaries because they happen to think that Jay, even when not great, is still a much more graceful and naturally gifted dancer than Peter.

I think you meant to say "more trained".

"Naturally gifted"??? Do me a favour!!! I suppose Strictly bosses just happened to go for the least-known/popular member of The Wanted for no apparent reason???

Or could it have been something to do with the Youtube videos we've ALL watched...???!

"Naturally gifted dancer" yet he became a singer?? Makes sense....

I wonder if Aliona has worked that out yet?
Just imagine all the time she'd save not having to work out any choreography or get Jay to practice.

Peter for me. The reason for this is that I want to be entertained. I have been moved by few dances, moved to tears through many of Kara and Artem's dances, Natalie and Artem's American Smooth, moved to laughter (Tom Chambers showdance, Jeremy in just about every dance). Peter's charleston made me happy.

Jay just does nothing for me. He's a good dancer I will concede, but he doesn't bring anything else to the party. In order to entertain a performer MUST have a personality.

I think this is an interesting point.

I totally congratulate Jay on his Jive technique, as it's something totally new that he's managed to learn in a short space of time.

On the other hand, I find myself rolling my eyes when things like: timing, spins, lines, grace etc are mentioned by both judges and viewers alike. Are these not things that you learn when you spend years in dance classes?

Would rather see a poll :-
Jive - Jill vs Jay ... Both trained dancers
Or
AT - Jay vs Ramps - cos I loved Ramps AT
Or
Charleston - Pete vs Chris Collins - both novices

BIB - I think this would be a good contest, perhaps throwing Scott Maslen's jive in there too.

The others, I'm not so keen on.

I found Mark's AT overrated...Rachel Steven's was much better in my eyes.

Chris Hollins...no comment

Jay's jive is the best dance ever in strictly for me, I did not really enjoy pete's Charleston tbh as it was out of time and OMG that wide open mouth all the way through If that is what the judges call emoting then I hope that Jay never ever learns to emote.
