Me and my sister think it does its more syrupy. My mum, dad and other sister thinks it tastes the exact same.

What do you think?

It tasted different to me when I last tried it, many years ago. It was generally accepted that the best Coke was the ones in bottles from pubs.

Today, the same is true if beer. There's a beer I buy in bottles that just doesn't taste the same in cans. Apparently it's normal for beer companies to alter the recipe/process to produce beer with less fizz for cans because they can't withstand the same pressure as glass bottles.

It's not unreasonable to assume they do something similar with Coke.

I think it does taste different. However, my favourite is really cold out of a can.

It is definitely better. When I was in San Fransisco a couple of years ago I bought a glass bottle in a cafe and it tasted absolutely fantastic, poured over a big glassful of ice. Strangely enough, I noticed it was made in Mexico and imported. I later found out that a lot of people prefer Mexican bottled Coke because it is made with cane sugar, whereas US canned Coke is made with corn (ie maize) syrup.

It tastes the same to me. If I'm buying a bottle of coke to drink I'll buy a plastic bottle as cans and glass bottles are just too small.

I've never heard of anyone using a different "recipe", there may be a slight difference in the level of carbonation but not the actual recipe of the beer. In the craft beer world there's actually a lot of research and thoughts that cans are actually now better for the beer as they're more tightly sealed and there's no chance of any light pollution. Quite a few really good beers are now available in cans.

I think it tastes better yes. I think beer tastes better in bottles than in cans as well but that may be just me.

This has been a subject for debate for years, some say it's psychological, I don't agree.

I personally think that cans and plastic give drinks a funny taste, whereas glass doesn't, a certain amount chemicals etc leak from plastic and metal, you can even smell it coming from plastics and metals, however glass doesn't.

Give me glass anyday, better for the environment, better for our health, very cheap, sustainable and easy to recycle, and an added bonus of looking better.

However, I'm sure health and safety will say we're incapable of being safe around glass drinking vessles, I grew up with everything in glass and never once had an accident, nor did anybody I know.

I suppose it's easier just to shove everything in plastic though rather than to teach common sense and personal responsibility.

So what dictates "the carbonation of the beer" in the final product?

I know for a fact that blood stored in plastic bags contains elements of plastic so I don't see why the same wouldn't apply to coke or alcohol. Whether it changes the taste is a different matter.

I guess it's down to your definition of recipe, I'd read recipe as the ingredients and the amount of ingredients. You're right though, "recipe" could include the actual entire process of brewing including the carbonation.

I think a lot of this is psychological, they've done many tests and blind tastings on beers and once poured into a glass people can't taste any difference. Any perceived "metallic" or "chemical" taste comes from drinking directly from the can and the fact that when doing that your lips/mouth have direct contact with the can. Cans are actually lined so no metal makes contact with the drink.

You mean like the type and amount of sugar you add to the mix when you start brewing it, in order to control its carbonation at the end?

Was about to say exactly the same thing!

Continental coke is nicer in any case, but it's also ice cold out of a glass bottle onto some crushed lime in a glass, at a poolside in Tenerife.... heaven.

Really? If i'm having a soft drink Coke is always my first choice. Although I tend to go for Zero or Diet these days.

Not a coke expert, but I wouldn't be surprised. Beer tastes better out of a bottle, I reckon.

13 years ago in France I tried glass bottled coke and it was amazing.
However it may have been a France thing rather than bottle thing.
