We have an HTC Desire that is warning us of not enough space despite it showing about a third remaining.

Tried deleting a few bits and pieces but it's not changing the status.

Won't let us move anything to the SD Card that isn't already there.

One option left is to delete the 'Mail' cache and just wanted to confirm that this would delete emails only and not text messages/contacts which I believe is 'Dialer Storage'?

Any other ideas on how to stop it showing that it's close to full when it is not?

Thanks

there are two sets of memory (or it is divided up that cant be changed) - one is small like 128mb - this is where the apps go, and this is the cause of the notification on the notificaton bar.

simply put I dont think anything really could be done - my dad used to have one and everytime i visited he'd ask me to clean up space to get rid of the message.

Yes we are finding that nothing we do really helps. It's been doing it for a few years but always sorts itself out for a while and the person whose phone it is, is doing my head in

If it's the original Desire there's a way of partitioning the SD card and using that partition as internal storage.

The whole process is explained over on XDA Forums, and if you can follow instructions is fairly simple.

is it the old desire? About 5 yrs old? If so they had low memory, well decent for the time but tiny compared to whats needed today. Have you tried just clearing the cache? theres a few apps on the market but the one that springs to mind is app cache cleaner. it may free up a couple hundred MBs

I had one of these and had the same problem so followed the advice over at XDA and partitioned the SD card, i think you have to install an app called APPStoSD , or something like that.

Anyway it worked really well and by the time i decided to upgrade i had over 100 apps installed on it.

A quick fix for freeing up memory is delete the Facebook cache if you have it installed.
