I am pleasantly surprised Sammy (katie sugden) is proving her doubters wrong.

I read in the ED actor to go into the jungle thread that Sammy is now shooting a movie which stars actors such as Gabriel Byrne, Harvey Keitel and Gina McKee. This is following on from a role in ITV drama Prey. She really couldn't have dreamed of getting off to a better start than this. It took a fair bit of balls to leave ED at her age with no other acting experience behind her. Many on here said she'd left it too late and would be typecast etc and I was one of them.
However i always thought she would have some chance because of her very laidback understated non gurning acting. I always feel there's more to come from those type if given a chance. If Natalie Anderson does well as well this could be the turning point for ED actors having success post ED.
Hopefully this will encourage the other young Ed actors to give it a go away from ED.

Completely agree, it's lovely to see a deserving emmerdale actor getting success afterwards for once. I also read last week that the book she wrote is predicted to be this year's bestselling children book! She really couldn't have hoped for a better start and I'm very happy for her.

I would wait to see if what she's in is a success and how much of part she plays before saying she proved anyone wrong. Plent yof actors work after leaving p, it's just they get very minor roles or are in films whic bomb

Wow impressive. Well done to her. Gabriel Byrne actually started off in an irish soap.

Sammy isn't a leading character so these productions will not be resting on her for success. The main point is is that she's gone straight from ED and in less than a yeae has won roles in productions that are a higher calibre than soaps when a lot of posters said she might get a guest role in something like Holby. Too many ED actors failed to get good roles and end up going back to ED or move to other soaps or soap level shows. I think Katie being killed off has been very positive for Sammy. Her character is not hanging over her anymore which has to help her.

Congrats to Sammy!
I can see SW having a good career as a supporting actress rather than a leading lady.
But after this excellent post Emmerdale start, who knows how far she can go?

I found out earlier that Sammy Winward will be switching on the Christmas lights in Bolton next Thursday, November 19th. It is confirmed halfway down this page.

Of course, if Sammy can't make it in the end, her fans will get the hump!

We get no one, the council people just stick them up. We don't get many either, just some tinsel with lights in wrapped around five lampposts on one stretch of road , and one of the model Santa's we had was so old his leg had dropped off and you could see the pvc pipe inside. They make such an effort around here!

Poor old Santa. Thank you for telling us, it made me laugh. If they start up a collection for a new leg for him, put a few pence in for me!

Yes, some people on here were quick to write her off. Well done to Sammy for getting roles which aren't on Casualty, or Holby. Not that there is anything wrong with them, but it is nice to see a soap actress not go the usual route.

You can never really tell who will go on to bag more work after leaving

If anyone had told me 10 years ago that Suranne Jones would go on to have the career she has had, I would of laughed in your face. She wasn't brilliant on Corrie at all. but has massively improved as an actress since and she's never not on our tele these days.

That's as close to praise you'll get from me For all the characters pros and con's I always thought there was something quite engaging about the way Sammy played Katie.
I would now like to see Jeff Hordley give it another shot away from ED. I do appreciate that at his age and after already giving it a go once before he'd be taking an even bigger risk than the one that Sammy took, but i honestly think he could make it if he gave it long enough. He is a good actor and ideal for tough gritty dramas.
Back to this movie with Sammy being a success or not.
From what I've read on Imdb this is hardly a Saturday Night popcorn movie. It sounds like it's a tale that the producers want to tell rather than expecting it to be a hit movie.
Thousands of films are made each year and only a small percentage become hits. Even the Steve Jobs movie with a big budget, studio great director and actors hasn't stopped the movie from flopping. So it shows how unpredictable this business can be.

LOL.

If it makes you feel any better our Council stopped decorating the Xmas tree because thieving rotters kept cleaning it of all the decorations.

re Sammy.
While i'm delighted her career is going so well, i'm not quite as surpri:sed as spungey.
A couple of years ago, Dominic Power made some comments about how relaxed and easy Sammy was in front of the camera when playing Katie.

And filming a movie at the same time as well. Best selling childrens author, acting going well so her next job could be the female answer to Dynamo the magician

Bet that looks odd at night. Ours are the opposite, they decorate the bottom third then appear to fling the top lights to get them as high up as possible and hope they stick

But, but if Jeff left again that would mean no Cain to turn the women folk into a whimpering boneless mass on the sofa .That will never do, he must sacrifice his ambitions for his numerous adoring fans or face our wrath. One angry distressed female is bad enough, he wouldn't want an entire coven of us!

Cain has been the number one male character in the for 15 years and Jeff is a good actor but I still don't get why so many ladies on here get so moist whenever he's on screen. He's hardly up there with a George Clooney.

Pffft Clooney Schmooney, he's got the appeal of a baked potato. Cain on the other hand, has certain female posters needing Catsan under them when he's on screen

On paper, with the drama and movie it did look like a great start to her post Emmerdale career but it's now looking a bit premature to say Sammy has got off to a great start post Emmerdale.

Her role in Prey was a very small one and i hear her role in this film is a tiny one. So over the last year she's probably spent about as much time in front of the camera as she would have done filming a few episodes of Emmerdale. So the longer this goes on the rustier and more nervous she'll be, when and if she ever gets in front of the camera again.
She's auditioning but not getting anywhere, so it's not looking good at this moment in time. I hope she doesn't come to regret leaving Emmerdale, though i do understand she's not short of a quid or two, so at least she's not under financial strain to find work.
