She is still a mediocre actress though. She did nothing impressive in prey, totally outshone by the rest of the cast.

She only had a couple of lines of dialogue with her dad and from then was only had a couple of scenes of being tied up, shouting and being moved around. She did well enough with what little she had to do.

The understated non gurrning face pulling soap actors are the ones who stand the best chance of doing OK or better away from their soaps and Sammy is one of them of those actors. I did think only ever having played Katie her whole working life could count against her though but good to see it isn't.
Just did a quick google on the show and the cast is quite heavyweight with the likes of Helen McCrory and Michael Gambon.

Excellent news for the lovely Sammy Winward.

However nice it'll be for me to see her on my Gogglebox again, it's still not going to be the same as watching Sammy playing my beautiful lKatie.
Watching a soap character you love for years becomes a part of your daily life. However good this drama series might be, I can never feel for the characters the way I can for a longtime soap character that I love.

She seems to be taking an even bigger gamble by looking for roles in higher quality productions rather than just going for any role than she can get. That's fine but it'll mean she's auditioning against better quality actors and will miss out on lots of roles and won't work as much as she could
It's a long haul doing it this way at her age. The likes of Karl Davis did it the right way by not staying too long in a soap and working their way slowly up. Sammy should have done this years ago but she did have a child to bring up so maybe that's why she stayed in ED?

re bit about Sammy not working as much as she might like.
After leaving Emmerdale Sammy did say she knows she's going to be working as much as she was used to but she's happy with that.
Her book sold very well and this is her third role since Emners, so she's getting the variety of work she hoped for.
Also, she loves to travel and still sees her old friends from Emmers, so she appears to have a very nice life balance.

Only a nude scene from Sammy would tempt me to watch this upcoming show.
