It's hard to think that one day the Doctor may be female, when we've had so many male incarnations.

I'd make just one exception though. I'd have Julia Sawalha as the Doctor, but no other when it comes to the lead character being female.

Someone posted a thread on this two years ago:

You can see what people thought there. Someone mentioned Miriam Margoles from Blackadder, but I cannot see that at all.

Hell No.

If that happens, myself and about a quarter to a third of the audience will walk away.

The continuous, never-stopping threads like these are like little children:

"Can I have a cookie?"

"No."

"How about now?"

"No."

"How about now?"

"No."

Etc., etc., etc., until they bug the parent into giving them a cookie. How many threads do we need to have on this beaten to death topic before you figure out that the answer is no.

The Doctor is male. Period. He is male, hyper-competent, hyper-knowledgeable, hyper-intelligent and British. Changing any one of these things changes the character irrevocably. If you don't think so, then just picture Andrew Dice Clay playing The Doctor; he could do the other four, but he could not be British in a million years and it would destroy the character. Period.

No it seems like people want a female doctor for the sake of it not taking into consideration, will it actually fit and will half of the audience walk from Doctor Who. We will get one if the time or if it ever feels right but it just dosen't. Its like saying oh lets hàve a black Doctor just because we haven't had one. That is all good and well but you just chucked a black Doctor in there just because of his skin color with no consideration of his acting anilities or the audience or wether he will be rightly cast as The Doctor.

To me people who ask for female Doctors remind me of children in a store; "I want this one! And that one, and this one!" Without consideration for money, like another person with a similar analogy said. The Doctor has just always been a Male, Dominant role who is captivating.

Besides you've seen two Time-Ladys now, Jesus

If you go with the character, who it has been established can be either sex - thats canon fanbois, get over it - then yes, we can have a female Doctor. I don't see any reason why an actress of the right calibre can't make it work.

Now if people would accept it, that's a whole different question.

This is what Im saying sure storywise The Doctor can be a female, but if he was male it wouldn't feel right half of the fandom will probably walk or way or go mental and we don't wanna kill Doctor Who.

Deffinetly No, but if Moffat goes on beyond series 10 ,we will have one - and it will kill the series for me

Maybe I'm "politically correct" but I don't see what the big deal would be. He'd have a different anatomy of which we wouldn't be seeing anyway... so what? It'd be no bigger a change then some of the other stuff they've tried with the character over the years.

If they cast somebody who can genuinely play an intruiging Doctor, rather than just a pretty face, then I'm totally fine with it.

Joanna Lumley / Patsy for Dr Who haha. Or Helen Mirren. Y'know.; cats, pigeons, amongst.

I never understood why there has been more call for a lady doctor then a black or asian actor

BIB: Your analogy is flawed. Parents are rightly in a position of authority over children and would be expected to make the ruling. And it's understandable if they got irritated at the pestering.

This isn't the same situation at all. Everyone here is equal and no-one here is in a position to take the decision (either way).

Plus, it has been a little while longer than usual since this was last debated.

It's a no from me.

Yes, provision has been carefully made within the DW universe by Moffat for the Doctor to become female. However I still think it would stretch credibility for the Doctor to have identified as male for 52 years and suddenly adopt a female body. And I also think it's a pretty pointless thing to do. If the want a female timelord, create a new, original character (and for that reason I didn't support the Master becoming Missy).

No matter how many times Steven Moffat declares how successful turning the Master into Missy has been, I'm not convinced. I don't like what they've done to the Master and wouldn't like the same treatment for the Doctor. So it's still a no from me. It will happen though, I'm sure of that and it'll be when the show needs extra publicity imo.

No...I'd hate it...

I have enjoyed the show and the character for going on 40 years. For me, the Doctor is the male character I used to pretend to be in the playground.

I love change and would accept most other things, but to me this would just feel like a different show.

I'd happily see a non-white Doctor, but a female Doctor? Just, no. Not for me.

I sit on the fence when it comes to throwaway lines (because that's what they are), so until I witness a regeneration, then I'll be convinced.

Or how about a transgender Doctor? Perhaps it could be revealed that the Doctor was transgender before regenerating into the 1st Doctor when this message was left for the other Time Lords...

Now, knowing that someone is bound to use that gruesome phrase "get over it" to me, I shall pre-empt it:

No - get over it.

There - I used it first.”

no, they showed Michelle Gomez was great as Missy - although I liked her character she was never the master for me. she is like a new character. I don't relish the idea of a female doctor, I just don't think it would work at all and to be honest it just isn't necessary”

As for a female Doctor. No. The character is female. Go and create a new character.

James Bond is male
Batman is male
Wonder Women is female
Supergirl is female

Dr Who is male!”
