Robert and Andy's original game of Chicken (2005)
For those who never saw Emmerdale back in its glory days, or those who want to see it again, here are clips from the Sugden brothers original car crash, that lead to a shock death and Robert's original departure from the show way back in 2005...
Part One: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CCyEvhbf1Q Part Two: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i82tW-buLrE Did you prefer tonight's episodes or the ones from 2005? |

Preferred it back in 2005 - better acting, preferred the second actor that played Robert and 2005's packed an emotional punch as it a) led to Max's death and b) Jack was involved.
I would like preferred if tonight had put a bigger emphasis on the gap left in both boys' lives with their father's passing. Jack was barely mentioned tonight - Jack was mentioned more of an bit of one-manupship between the brothers. Jack had favoured Andy over Robert, who was his biological son and Andy was playing on that, which I didn't like. I liked the bit with Victoria saying "They think I don't know about their game of chicken" but she did, would have preferred if she grown and set and told them both to sort out their differences if not for themselves but for their father. Instead Robert was trying to be the bigger person but I'm at the stage I cannot believe him and Andy ain't much better either. I was watching Jack's funeral episode this afternoon and Jack's last letter to his children was that he wanted them all to be a family again... none of this was mentioned and it could have been something Victoria could have thrown at them but nope. Maybe they need to call Sheila Mercier back in to reprise the role of Annie to sort them both out. The actress is in her mid 90s now!! |

Jack might have been a decent guy but he was a lousy parent he punished Robert for not wanting to follow in his footsteps and pushed him to one side not that justifies how evil Robert became but I can fully understand his bitterness towards Andy and jack. |

The dialogue seems much more natural in the old episodes.
Tonight's dialogue was incredibly staged and "plotty" |
