Galaxy S5 - Screen laminate coming off & a BIG UP to Wembley Repair Center!
Just an update in case anybody else has the same issue.
I noticed that the actual laminate (plastic coating that goes over the glass) was coming off in one of the corners of my 18 month old Galaxy S5 a few weeks ago slightly (around 2mm), but over the last couple of weeks it got worse until it was around 1cm by 5mm so I decided to take it into the Samsung Repair Center in Romford. After a couple of days I got a text saying it was ready so went to pick it up to find that they had not done it and advised that the laminate was not covered under warranty and the options were to "see how it goes" or "have you got insurance"! ![]() Quite annoyed I took it to another repair center in Cheshunt to be told that Samsung have told them it is covered under warranty, but unfortunately they do not repair the S5 and to take it to Wembley repair center. I went into Wembely this morning (as I was working in the area) and they took a look and said it was covered and will be ready in a couple of hours. I went back in around just under the 2 hours and they had already replaced the whole screen and all was ok so top service from them. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I think I may have just been unlucky with the repair center at Romford as Wembley seemed to think that they were a new repair center (not sure if they replaced the one that was at Westfield, Stratford?). |

We have the same problem on an S5, top right corner around the front camera has delaminated.

Am slightly surprised it did not happen sooner.
It gets reported regarding laptops a lot, that often seen to be occuring within weeks. |

Well, looking back many reckoned the laptop problem was a mix of pressure and grease on the keyboard when closed.
Are you using some sort of case which could cause similar? Or just greasy finger syndrome? |

Yes, looking at it again , it sounds slightly different.
De-lamination problems elsewhere are more about the surface erosion of the thin anti-glare layer. This sounds highly unusual. More an OLED problem than IPS? |

I also have had my S5 for 18 months +, and I have never had an issue with it. To me its a really good phone. My sons have been through loads of Iphones in this time, and one of them has since given up on them and got an LG. My s5 has been dropped several times, a few times onto a stone floor, dropped in the bath, is used every day in my van which in summer is a very hot and dirty environment, and in winter cold and damp (I work from the back of the van, and there is a portable forge fire which gives vast amounts of dust and dirt, and a boiling water tank behind it, which gives lots of steam and condensation, both of which are pretty destructive to electronic devices.) The only issue I have is with some of Samsung's bloatware, but I have never had unreliability issues. The battery life is still pretty good. I wouldnt call that 'shoddy quality'. |

I still wonder if I drop the thing, will both pieces of glass break? Still, the 2nd glass layer is infinitely better than the stick on plastic type. |

And this problem is within the warranty: http://www.geek.com/apple/apple-is-i...tains-1618314/ At least it looks like they sorted the above problem out eventually due to the complaints/bad press. I've never had any issues before with my S3 that I had for over 2 years and also my HTC HD2 phone I had for 2 years before that. |

Apple support is evolving all the time.
Normally they have their silent recall after or towards the end of the warranty. On that one I recall reading it as 'if you know about it, and also give a good pitch we might help like some others we helped', there looking to be nothing really official said on the matter. |
