Pat Butcher was massively overrated.
She had absolutely nothing on Pauline Fowler and Angie Watts. Now I actually miss them

Especially when there is always a thread complaining about her death. It happened nearly four-years ago, time to move on.

Angie was only in the show three years, viewers may have seen her differently if she had been in the show for decades. Pauline was a good character, but she was more restricted to her own bubble. You could pick Pat up and stick her with any group of characters and it would work. She didn't have to be the main focus of a storyline either, she was a good mediator and a good tool to move plots on.
Pat would dish out hugs and thick ears to those who deserved it, sometimes she'd do both at once. She wasn't perfect and didn't act like she was either. Her life experiences make her such a good agony aunt too. I loved Pat and I think the show is still suffering from losing her. There is no doubt in my mind that killing Pat off when they did was the worst decision in the whole history of EastEnders. |

Pat's former role on the show is now being fulfilled by Shirley and to a lessor degree Kat when she returns. That just goes to show how easily replaceable of a character she is. No character has ever been able to replace Angie, Pauline and even Peggy.

I never did get the Angie love. I just thought I'd put that out there.
She was a good character but not a big favourite of mine. I've never missed her presence. |

Pat was one of the legends. She had been there for 25 years and she was a proper matriarch. I wish Pat never died

Is this the worst thread to ever be made on the soap forum?

There is no doubt in my mind that killing Pat off when they did was the worst decision in the whole history of EastEnders. I loved all three characters. Angie was great but more than the others, had played out her storyline by the time she left. (She was a more inward focused type of person.) Once the storyline was played out she could leave and I didn't miss her as such as she had played her part and left. Pat should never have been killed off as she could easily slip back in and play also sorts of 'roles' in a range of storylines and viewers who watched in the 1980s would have a familar face to recognise when that happened. |

Well apparently shirley is replacing Pat so I'm assuming a wind up
![]() we should be helping her not judging her on totally misguided opinions... And before anyone has a go, it's a joke.

Pat was extra special for all sorts of reasons. She had this wonderful relationship with Janine, she was related to some great characters, not least David
She had a cracking sense of humour (unlike the other two you mentioned), she was sexy, bawdy, loved a drink and had a heart bigger than any other character I can think of. Of course she was also a bitch of the highest order. And let's not forget she had style with a capital S.
