Just in case you have been living under a rock for the past 3 weeks, Adele is releasing her album This Friday coming (20/11/15) and it is expected to break Britneys record of 1.3 million units sold in a week and has a chance of beating N Syncs record of 2.4 million units.

What is your prediction for her UK sales for her first week? Will she bow out with sales that many said she would do as she 'is the next Norah Jones' or can she sell more than the current top selling album this year (Ed Sheeren - 700k)??

State your opinion and regardless if you like her or not, it's safe to say that she is here for the long haul and let's hopefully see history be made

I would wager 1.2 million

A few weeks ago I'd have said talk of over a million first week UK sales was crazy, but now I'm not so sure. It's a distinct possibility. and predictions for US sales go as high as 2.8 million!.

I think she will certainly have the years top selling album in the first week.

I predicted 4.5 million WW in the dedicated album thread. And that was based on 700k for the UK and 2.5m for the US! But it wouldn't surprise me if it was much higher here. One thing is certain, she's going to smash Utada's long-held WW record of a shade over 3 million.

I'm really unsure if Adele will go on break the record for fastest selling album of all time currently held by Oasis.

That said, it could run it close as Adele is going all out with the album promo starting with her show At The BBC.

I've gone for 450-550k but it could quite easily be higher.

Is this people going out and buying CDs and Vinyl records or people paying for invisible mp3 files on the internet?


Please define what you call "buying an album".

It's people buying something that they can easily get for free in mins without leaving home. One of the reasons I have often stated that '21' is, in real terms, arguably the best selling album ever...and '25' looks like it isn't exactly going to do badly, is it?

Well HMV will have the album on CD and vinyl on Friday so I hope you all buy it that way and have something physical that you can hold in your hand.

In some ways Itunes has killed the old ways of buying music. Nowadays a single is a 9MB mp3/m4a file. It used to buy you bought a CD or 7"/12". It's easy money now. They just sell you a file that you can't see or touch or hold or really even own. Millions of people abandoning the CD format and vinyl format and even cassette tape for this has been nothing but luck. The money they must make from people paying for these digital files, files that you can get on Google never fails to amaze me.

The best 'compromise' is to buy the CD from amazon with the mp3 rip included..

PS Talking of Amazon, '25' is already #3 on Amazon's best selling albums of 2015 (so far) even though it isn't even released yet (it's actually #1 on Amazon US). Nuts.

Got to laugh at the lengths Bieber and others are going to increase album sales. $22 dollar concert tickets include album ($18 ticket and $4 for the album). When has his concert tickets cost $18? I actually have no idea. Lol. Also offering a deal with Lyft. It's kind of free ($5 for the album plus $5 credit to use Lyft),
Rihanna has a deal with Samsung. Or trying to work something out with them. You get a coupon through Samsung to get Anti free. It's crazy. Anything they can to compete.
In the meantime, Adele simply tweets one Gif of her cd being processed and probably increased sales by a million.
Is there a current figure for preorders in the US? Last I heard, it was around 500k.

I don't think even Adele (or at least the label) is above trying a stunt or two. Don't forget they tried to get Apple to stock it on CD in Apple stores (Which Apple declined). There's no suggestion that it would have been sold at anything less than the going rate or as part of any promotion, but all part of the PR game.

I think it'll do ridiculously well because, like Kate Bush, the quality is plain to see, she promotes it just enough t get the job done without milking it, and still walks away with dignity and some respect from her audience. And I suspect in the next few days the press will be hyping up the possibility of record breaking sales enough for the less commited purchasers to stick on in the shopping trolley on Friday night just because they were eventually going to get it anyway but think it's worth getting our girl the record. Assuming there's enough stock so that people aren't fighting over them. It's not Black Friday this week, is it?

Week 2 will be interesting if everyone does go mad on Friday or over the weekend though.

Unfortunately that is exactly what will happen, in order for this to sell that many units it's gonna have to take a lot of lies from the media and her fans online to spout a lot of lies about it breaking records to try and trick the casual buyer into buying a copy on Friday. Of course it'll be all over the internet by Tuesday anyway so that will play into how many actually part with their money on Friday but that is the game now in the music industry. It is full of tricks and hype and big talk.

I imagine Adele has walked away doing the most minimal of promotion. Her net worth is $55 million. If i had that many millions in the bank, I don't think i'd bother leaving the house much either. Infact i don't think i'd care much about anything. Adele has made her money, enough money to not only secure her children's future but her children's children and their children.

And unfortunately here in the UK, the way the British mindset is, British people, especially in England, not here in Scotland where I am, but in England, they love what is it they call it? Like a boy done good, in this case a girl, they love to think someone's done well in their country. It's the English way, the British way and so you'll have all these people on Friday buying this CD/vinyl record and they wont think twice about it, if the money is there in their pocket and they don't need the money it will go on this not even taking into account that she is worth $55 million and probably couldn't care less how many people buy this album but in the minds of the British public, they still think of her as a little girl. They think she is one of them.

And that's the thing with it right? She's not one of you. She's worth $55 million. She doesn't pay rent like you or a mortgage or worry what's for dinner tomorrow night. She has absolutely nothing in common with the working class anymore but like clockwork and it happens with so many other singers and bands, their fans don't see that and they go out their way to help them break all these records and put more money into their pockets. That's when the bubble tends to burst. Usually it's 7.30am the next day when it's time to get up and get washed and put a bit of perfume on and make the morning commute to work. That's usually when reality hits for most people. Not for Adele though. Her family will be taken care of for generations to come and they certainly wont be making a morning commute anywhere. They probably will never step foot on a bus or train in their lives. But that's alright! As long as we support Adele because she's British and all that. By all means spend your money on Friday, just do it for the right reasons. Do it because you really want the album and it's gonna be something you'll listen to and get your money's worth out of.

Not sure if I buy the Apple story. She had already refused an exclusive release through them worth a truckload of cash. They may still pony up $30 million to support her tour. Then her team would turn around and say, hey, I know you are pushing the new digital thing you have going on, but how about you carry the physical copy of 25? Old school throw back that reminds people that they might like a CD instead. While many of their laptops don't play CDs. Yeah. Somehow I doubt that took place.
Out of the top 5 selling albums in UK history, 21 is the only one without a rerelease. 19 was never rereleased either. She has yet to come out with a Christmas album (fingers crossed). So I do think XL knows how to show restraint. Or Adele does anyway.

What am I missing here? Why the f*ck would anyone buy an album if they wouldn't listen to it? To build this girl up? They'd more like to pull her down then spend money on an album where they don't care for her voice or music.
And you seem bitter that this girl never has to work or worry again in her lifetime. "She's not like us". She was for the first 18 years. She made it out. So? What's your point here? Ed and Coldplay, hell even Jessie J never have to work again. Who cares? If the music makes our miserable, poor ass, have to work a shitty job to pay the rent, lives a little happier, then hats off. Take my $12 Adele and pad that hell of a life you've got going on.

Ah the classic lets discuss (potential) albums sales, rather than how good (potentially) the music might be.

I'd rather the album sold one copy (to me) and I loved it, rather than 1 billion sales of an album i didn't like.

that's a cautionary tale. The important thing is like soupietwist says above, that an album is good, it then generates it's own steam. My only fear when anticipation goes so intense is that it all goes a bit Be Here Now. Selling 700k is no use if 690k of them are in the charity shops a week later and the album destroys your legacy.

Hopefully 25 is good, doesn't go overboard in week 1 but sells steadily well into next year. As for a 1st week prediction i'll say less than the wild predictions and more than the bitter ones

She'll definitely pass 550k. Honestly her success doesn't even surprise me anymore, she could double Oasis' record and I'd be kicking myself for ever doubting her.

Nothing wrong with me. I'm just sick of this stupid British culture of the people in this country, mainly down south falling over themselves for celebrities. Celebrities that could buy and sell them 10 times over.

Don't compare kate bush to adele! kate is a real music legend and adele just sells millions of bland albums. They are worlds apart
