Bring back Louis and Sharon to sit with Simon and have one last hurrah!

There is nothing new the contestants or producers can show us.

Granted, the show has discovered some big names (Leona, One-Direction and Fleur (to be proven) but the days of this happening are surely dwindling.

I have been a massive fan of XF since it started - and Pop Idol and Popstars before it, but the show has lost its magic.

I do think its slowly killing music. I watched the Beatles programme last week and it reminded me how brilliant music used to be when it was organic, not contrived and creative.

I think its very cringe that they already have the Xmas single already picked out for the winner and they TPTB will EXPECT that it should go to Number 1. And if it doesn't, does that spell the end for the poor sap that won the show?

I remember when songs and artists were allowed time to develop their craft and their fans - When songs were allowed to enter the top 40 and gain momentum. Now it seems if you don't hit number 1 you are doomed!
Who would want to be a music artist these days? Its so volatile!

I hate to do the show down and I honestly believe there isn't a lot they can do to improve it as it stands - People are just bored of the format.

Needs to be rested or put out of its misery.

Not sure why ITV have bought The Voice - Are they looking to this as THE replacement?”

Interesting post. Not sure about killing music, but I do feel a bit a bit sorry for the generation who have grown up with XF as central to their experience of music. TOTP was never perfect but it did showcase and act as a prompt for a huge range of musical trends through my youth in the seventies and eighties. XF was a magnificent pantomime at its peak, but when all is said and done its pretty bland musically.

As for the chart, downloads and streaming are changing it beyond recognition and I don't think its rearrangement is fully settled or even fully understood.

Nothing is meant to last forever. The show's been good now it is time to put it to bed, at least for a while.

I quickly skim through it these days, with no real interest and I don't think I would care if the show featured six Rod Stewarts and six Aretha Franklins.
