Best keyboard for Android?
Lidtop2013
16-11-2015
Recently jumped into Android from IOS. On my Note 4 ive got this stock keyboard that doesnt do anything,no auto correct or anything like i was used to on IOS . Which keyboard is like IOS? In the sense that it suggests words before youve finished typing, then tap on it, plus auto correct.

Any suggestions?

Also any other tips with what i should download to customise icons, standard ones look abit dated.

Thanks

I'd 2nd this.

There are couple of the default settings I change though:

The amount of time it takes to select the 2nd character on long key press right down and also add the arrow keys.

Best keyboard ever.

Just downloaded it and your all correct, it's brilliant , it's what the original android keyboard should be like.
Was going to ask how to resize the keyboard as the keys were as big as my finger nail! But I found the settings so it's all good.

While I've got the attention of some Android folks, is there any other suggestions for things I can do/tweak on my note 4? For example when I installed my Barclays app it came up with a security message saying barclays recommends Android users to download a anti virus programme and that they offer customers free AV, is it really needed? Don't want to slow down the phone etc

Stock android keyboard has autocorrect etc. Not sure what the note 4 uses. My current recommendation is to upload your photos to "Google photos" and then install the app and be amazed by the search facilities !!! If you are sneaky you can even enable the facial recognition

Thanks Stuart, will look into that when I get time.

Although I believe that there is hardly any chance of getting malware/a virus on Android unless you start doing silly things and downloading apps from outside the Play Store I use the free Barclays Kaspersky software as I don't see any harm in it as it does not seem to slow down the phone in any way.

I can recommend changing Samsungs Launcher (Touchwiz) on the phone for something like Nova Launcher (its also on the Play Store and is simple to install. Touchwiz is one of the only things I don't like about Samsung phones, but is easily sorted by changing the Launcher. Also it gives the option to change the number of rows/columns of icons on the screen (which is great with the bigger screens), the animations when flicking between screens and I especially like the backup option so if you need to reset the phone in anyway you just run the restore to get the icons and widgets back exactly the way you had them. Also it makes the phone a lot snappier flicking between screens.

Another thing if you want to sync your iTunes with the new phone there is an app called iSyncR on the Play Store (even syncs over wireless and also the Play lists).

The Note 4 keyboard should also have autocorrect. It can be turned off though, so possibly that's what happened with the OP.

I agree wholeheartedly that Google photos is the way to go. It's the best gallery app in my experience.

Thanks very much mate, yeah I've heard about launchers and it's funny I was just thinking surely you can fit more icons on this screen!

Got another question, I know the note 4 is meant to have fast charging yet mine takes around 3 hours to fully charge from almost empty, surely that's not right? I bought the phone second hand it came with a black Samsung charger but it doesn't have the small plug that you connect to the USB lead, just a wire that's connected to the plug, sound like the wrong charger? What amps should the original charger have?

When I got my works Note 4 I believe it was a white 2.1amp plug (hopefully not mistaken as I already had a couple of these before for my own S5 anyway).

3 hours does seem excessive as even in my car with the 2amp charger it charges a lot faster than that.

Also the cable could cause it to charge slowly if it's the wrong one as I believe some cables can make the phone think it's charging on a PC thus limiting the amps to 600ma (.6amps)?

google's own keyboard. No emoji as standard though if that matters

sorry for mini thread hijack but can you voice search on google now for specific photos in the google photo app?

There's no cable, it's like a thin wire with plug attached to it. It says travel adaptor on the plug too?
The amp ratings say input 100-240v 0.15A and output 5.0V =0.7 amps

I don't know much about electric but I think it's the output I'm looking at and 0.7amps is too low isn't it? Explains why it's taking ages to charge.

We have two Apple charging plugs, a 1amp iPhone charger and a 2.5amp I pad charger, could I just plug my Samsung USB lead into one of the Apple chargers and charge the note off that? Don't want to damage the phone/battery though! If we think the original was 2.1 I might be best with using the 1amp charger for now then, got to be better than using a 0.7 one.

Well I installed nova launcher earlier and I must say its made the phone feel much quicker, although it was not slow to start with. I love all the customisation you can do as well, more icons on the screen, more icons on the dock and lollipop icons look so much nicer.

You should be able to use the iPads charger as the phone should only take what it needs and no more.

Might be worth looking into getting another charger though in case you have to charge the iPad at the same time.

I went for a couple of these chargers for round the house:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Cabl...amsung+charger

Or I don't know if you have seen the chargers for multiple devices (the Samsung should work, but might be worth checking 100% with the reviews etc that the Apple stuff does):

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Family...ds=usb+charger

Glad you liked Nova Launcher - also once you get it sorted out the way you like it it's best to back Nova Launcher up (I normally save to the device and also EMAIL it to myself as well so I defiantly have a good copy.

Thanks for the links, will definitely be getting a proper note charger though, I'll just use the ipad charger for now then.
Will look into backing up as well when it's all exactly as I want it

I've found a little bug with SwiftKey, sometimes it suggests the correct word but when I click on it it comes up with a completely different word. But as I type this it's working again, anyone else find this?
