New afternoon series. All the usual ingredients:

- overworked, stressed coroner, doing police's job for them
- male copper, (still) attracted to her and trying not to show it
- mardy teenage daughter
- blowsy, bawdy grandmother
- quirky looking youth of uncertain relationship

Fab locations though. Devon coastline around Hope Cove/Thurlestone, I believe.

Watched the first one but shan't bother with any more. Did anyone else watch it?

Yes I watched it and you are right, same old stereotypes I thought some of the acting was poor except for Claire Goose who was great, so I will watch it again just cos she's in it

Rubbish Dad fight

OTT acting

Even CG up the Tower !!

Pretty poor show.

And that's just the first ten minutes !

I doubt I will watch any more episodes.

Even with the obvious locations, Doc Martin standard it is not.

If Doc Martin is the yardstick there's not far to fall.

At my wife's suggestion, I've just "half watched this" on i>Player.

I agree the Doc Martin similarities, even down to the view of the harbour and "a bit of guitar" in the close-out music. Do you think it's aimed at those suffering withdrawal symptoms from the Doc?

Save us from "investigative coroners and forensic staff." Not worth watching another episode for me, though I think Claire Goose is a competent actress in a supporting roll, but she deserves better than this. It's not for me but it will suit the afternoon target audience.

IMHO the show that did this best was Silent Witness with Amanda Burton - far superior to the insipid Emilia Fox. After A. Burton left the plots became ridiculous. They were pretty far-fetched before but so well done you didn't mind. In reality a coroner would never get involved in a police investigation or interview witnesses.

Synopsis from the Careers.gov. website:

Coroners are independent judicial officers who inquire into all reported deaths from unnatural or unknown causes, or those that have happened suddenly or in prison or police custody.

To become a coroner you must be a qualified barrister or solicitor, or a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx), with at least five years' experience after qualifying.

PS Does anyone know exactly who Clint was?!

You can tell it is low budget, the acting is rather poor overall and the storylines don't really stick or work out well, Matt Bardock's attempt at a south western accent is rather poor.

I'll keep watching it to see if it gets better but I don't hold my breath.

Apparently Goose says this is the most fun she's ever had on set which proves the old adage that it's usually in inverse proportion to audience enjoyment.

Haven't seen Today's episode yet but if at the end the verdict is accidental Death then I'm giving up on it because that would make all 3 verdicts so far has been the same and what's the point in watching if you already know the verdict even before the programme starts

I wish my wife wouldn't watch this. Then she wouldn't keep asking me to "Come and see how daft this bit is."

To be fair, even if it is a bit silly, at least it's not another naffin' afternoon cookery programme.

There's some nice scenery too.

One of the annoying things about this and a few other BBC Daytime dramas is that although it's made on a low budget, it has a 5.1 surround soundtrack, whilst most bigger-budget prime-time dramas have good old stereo

Watching, especially today, it looks like the writer & director have just come out of drama school, and are putting into place all the bad clichés, along with really poor OTT acting from many.

The only peron I can believe in is Inspector Davey

Shame - I liked Matt Bardock in Frost. He certainly had more hair, but then of course it was the 90's! (Had a secret crush actually.)

From what little I've seen of it, through "passive viewing," the mother and her boyfriend are ridiculous characters and the coroner's assistant, does anyone believe he would be allowed to dress and act (like an employee in a "surf shack") the way he does?

Caught the end of the credits yesterday. Copyright date was MMXVI. A series ahead of it's time!

Thanks Ess_Bee I've been trying to place him, I fancy him too although I could do without the accent

Probably best known for his role as paramedic Jeff in Casualty.
This programme is beyond awful. The mayoress is straight out of amdram, and Goose is as wooden as ever.

I have a crush on Matt too - there's just something about him! I saw him appearing in the play My Night With Reg in London last year which made my lust even worse!

It's drama-lite specifically made for Daytime viewing (and you can tell they're aiming for the overseas market) but it is peculiarly addictive!

I think it's fine. It makes for a refreshing change from the quiz shows that have been shown in the same slot for months now.

The West Country accents I've heard have also been OK, apart from Katy Brand who went slightly OTT. It's not the most difficult accent to attempt.

That Ordinary Lies thing that was broadcast in primetime in the spring was no better than this.

Well yes, we'll grant you that! Anything has to be better. I liked Ordinary Lies but thought it was on in the evening?
