I want to purchase 5 of the above but going to split my questions into 4 + 1.

My office ladies have asked for 8in Android WiFi tablets for personal Christmas presents and I am more then happy to do this, but I have got myself swamped/lost in details. They have to be 8inch not 7 inch and I would like them to have as up to date Android OS as possible or able to update to the latest OS.

I asked what brand and the consensus is Acer, for some reason but it is not written in blood.

Great I thought, what could be easier but I have got swamped in detail, I have allowed for £80 to £150 per tablet, regardless of brand but must be 8inch?

I too have decided to purchase an 8inch tablet for my own use., though my reasons are different.

I upgraded to a Samsung Note 3 a while ago, my thinking was the screen would be larger, ( which it is ), if I had to show a client something, instead of us all squinting at a 4in screen, to a degree the upgrade helped but the screen isn't large enough.

The other thing I find exceptional useful with my Samsung Phone is I can sync/stream it with my office Samsung TV.

So I would like to purchase a 8 inch Samsung Tablet but not sure which one?

The other thing with my phone, the screen is very responsive, I don't have to thump it as I had to do with a couple of past incarnations so a responsive tablet screen is a must for me, in fact, a requirement for all of them I guess.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Amazon current sell 6 of the £50 Amazon Fire tablets for the price of 5. I haven't got my hands on one yet but reports are that it's remarkably good for the money. If you feel too much like Scrooge you can buy them Amazon vouchers too.

I don't really see the distinction between 7 and 8 inch tablets.

They seem to have a fixation with 8 inches. Is that dead on 8 inches, or 8.x inches?

The Nexus 9 would be amongst the best 8.x inch tablets around. Prices currently around 150-200.

Wouldn't something from the Kindle Fire range suffice, Seacam? (OK so it's Amazon "flavour" Android) They'll just be browsing & shopping & emailing & "social media"ing I'd guess?

If they hadn't already ditched them I would have said Hudl 2 from Tesco - 8.3" full HD screen & impressive specs for the price and always winning "best budget tablet" awards, but stopped now as Tesco concentrate on being a grocer, not the next Amstrad. Those still available "new" are fetching a 75-100% premium over the original Tesco price from opportunist sellers! (Can't knock it - they are still in high demand, even refurbished and I'm doing a roaring trade in repairing those with broken touchscreens & reselling them ) Can run latest Android 5.1 "Lollipop" too.

Yes, I understand their reasoning but a successful product, ( with a few issues ), and they drop it although they will continue to support the Hudl for a couple years at least.

Ah well that's business for you and I suspect in the far future there will be a Hudl 3 but no one should hold their breath for now.

Mean while does the Kindle do an 8in version?

I had another crack a Acer via Argos, ( 8in models ) and a couple of other sites and reviews, some mention the Atom PSU others mention something different, do all of them have FHD?

£99 from Argos but I would spend £125 + for something bang up to date for them, spec' wise.

Yup, agree with you there - a bit "average" in most respects.

If the Hudl 2 was still on sale for whatever Tesco would be selling it for now, maybe £100, it would be a no-brainer. Things get cheaper, but tablets have bottomed-out as they are stagnating.

Tablets have gone out of fashion, as phablets have taken over from the phone end of the market for anything approaching 6", and most other people have realised that carrying around a large screen makes no sense whatsoever.

Why do the girls in the office have such a fixation on an 8" or plus device? I read somewhere that 6" was the average size.

One of the ladies has a phablet another has an old Hudl 1, I guess they have been chatting/trying among themselves and have decided on a 8in tablet as the preferred size.
