Post Office Mobile: Price Increase
Customers are receiving texts from the Post Office informing them that their PAYG bundles will no longer be available from March 2016: Quote:
We're making some changes to our 30 day bundles. The bundle you have will no longer be available to buy after March 2016. For more information see http://www.postoffice.co.uk/mobile-bundles/
Bundles being retired:Quote:
PRICE DATA MINS TXTS New bundles:£5 500MB 250 3000 £7.50 500MB 500 3000 £10 2GB 500 3000 £15 3GB 1000 3000 £20 5GB 1000 3000 Quote:
PRICE DATA MINS TXTS I am disappointed with this change, their old bundles were very competitive, some of the best of any MVNO. Their £10 for 2GB of data was a fantastic deal. New bundles are pretty average, £15 for 2GB of data is now in-line with EE PAYG except on EE you would get 500 mins rather than 1000, but you'd also get double speed 4G data.£5 200MB 250 300 £10 1GB 500 3000 £15 2GB 1000 3000 £20 4GB 1000 3000 Even their top tier £20 bundle, it's simply gone from 5GB data to 4GB with no other changes. My partner only just switched to them for the £10 bundle, time to move away. |

Who?
Do you write your text messages out and take them to the counter and they send them on... Gosh they do everything these days don't they. Looks like terrible value for money, there are so many PAYG providers out there and switching is no big deal I suppose. |

I think they are average rather than terrible, but obviously much worse than the previous deal.
Someone using 3 or 400 meg of data a month would face jumping from £5 a month to £10... |

But it is disappointing that now you are only just going to be gaining extra minutes and texts with the Post Office's offering compared with EE's at the same price rather than saving yourself a few extra quid on the data. Hope Asda doesn't follow suit by upping their data price to match EE for the same amount of data like the Post Office are. |

Suspect the wholesale price is increasing?
Interesting how the MVNOs appear to be getting it tough at the moment ...its like some networks could be trying to prove that without 4 main players competition doesn't exist? Maybe I'm just cynical of course. |

Maybe I'm just cynical of course. Sainsbury's mobile closing, Family Mobile closed, The Peoples Operator charging data down from 6GB to 1GB for the same price going by a thread in the Money Savings Expert forum, and of course athe Post Office mobile very shortly being far less great value for money than they have up until now. Seems some of the MNO's can't seem to bear that their MVNO's have been charging PAYG at much lower cost than them, i.e. less than 10p per minute instead of the rip off rates of in excess of 30p per minute and up to 45p per minute, and data at 1p to 3p per MB instead of the rip off 10p per MB (even more expensive still in some of the MNO's plans), and also offering a lot more minutes, data and texts per month than themselves at a much higher cost. It seems the whole reason for less data minutes and texts to cost the consumer a lot more money than they were paying before is the change to 0800 and 0808 calls to being free instead of at rip off prices and many companies using standard rate 034x and 037x numbers instead of premium rate 084x and 087x, with the MNO'S looking to compensate for such loss of income in other areas which is a total disgrace. Ofcom have not protected the consumer because they have done nothing to stop the MNO's shocking compensatory price increases in other packages. Last edited by david16 : 18-11-2015 at 20:59. I don't know. I suspect there is something in this about making the market less competitive to prevent a certain merger happening.
Remember its two main operators who probably for different reasons are not happy about the proposal. |

I was equally as disappointed (initially) to hear this as I've recently signed my mother up to this only for her to get a text a few weeks later stating they're reducing the allowances on the £5 bundle. Fortunately however, they're allowing existing customers to keep their bundles as they are until March next year, as long as you keep it recurring and have enough credit so that it can renew each month.
Despite the price change I still consider them to offer reasonable value for money. What people haven't mentioned is their Double Top Up feature which can be used in addition to any bundles you may have. So for example if you were to buy a £10 top up - and then a £5 bundle out of that top up, you'd get 250 minutes, 300 texts and 200MB of data plus £15 spare to use on more calls (8p/min), texts (10p) and data (10p/MB). For people who use little data and make lots of calls, they are still a pretty competitive PAYG option and the £5 bundle is still better than GiffGaff's Hokey Cokey Goodybag even after the allowance reduction. |

I just ported two numbers to PO, one GiffGaff and one 3, 3-2-1 but not really saved anything by doing so but it was nice to have the extra minutes, texts and data as back up but looks like my two numbers will be going back to 3 or Delight unless they raise their prices after Christmas.
