Why would the interview not be out this week? Do you all think just because he's left that he wont get money from this album? Of course he will just like he will continue to get royalties for all their old music. I'm sure he will go back if there is a demand for him to go back but fans should not be angry or naive. The music business is a business first and foremost. It's a job.

There stuff ain't generic it made him a millionaire. His R n B crap wouldn't have even started him off. He had no confidence when he was on XF without it he would be nothing. I hate artists who do this once they've earnt their money. We know from most pop bands that the solo member who goes first is normally he one who does the best he wanted a head start on them all. Plus he wasn't the most well know member anyway bby leaving he makes himself stand out so he had that to gain frm leaving which is the second reason he left.eeee”

You realise he didn't say the "normal 22 year old" thing, right? That was something 1D's team posted on their Facebook i.e. a statement by their PR team. Zayn himself, in the interview he gave with that awful Dan Wootton guy, didn't say anything about being "normal". And this idea that normal people can't make music is ludicrous in itself. But it's clear you're sort of determined to hate the guy given the odd lack of reading comprehension in your initial post in this thread.

1D's music was not his style, has not been his style for years and anyone with eyes could see that. The music itself is bland and generic as **** to my ears. People are allowed to have tastes. The interview talks about him paying for his cousin's schooling, buying his parents a house -- so obviously he stuck it out partly because it allowed him to achieve these things. I can't knock that, I'd do the same. He's accumulated enough to be comfortable, and he finally got the balls to walk away from an untenable situation with a band where he was creatively stifled and didn't believe in the music (again, anyone could SEE that just watching that he was the least engaged in whatever 1D was doing - although they all look fairly miserable onstage, so take that as you will). Better to leave and seek to do something you care about than hang around just because. And as others have said, it's a job not some sacred blood vow. You can walk away from a job if it sucks for you, that's your right as an employee, period.

He wasnt a typical "at will" employee though. He was under contractual obligation to fulfill certain duties and be handsomely compensated for it as you pointed out, but he failed to do that by walking out on the tour midway. He also imperiled the livelihoods of the remaining band and their support team which is many if you include road techies, management and PR, and the recording side. All he had to do was have some fortitude and stick it out for literally a few months more. There have been major stars who stuck things out a little longer because they thought of the people who depended on them. Heck, Katy Perry got told Brand was divorcing her on tour but she didnt cut and run.

Harry has come out really well by doing his own thing very quietly on the side but always being there for the band and never jeopardizing it. Very professional behavior on his part and a good example of having discipline and the smarts to see the long game. If I were on Malik's support I'd always have a backup plan in case he quit again.

I guess I just can't get with this perspective. Every decision will have potential consequences, he weighed those out against his personal well-being and chose to walk out. Some people will stick it out whether they are unhappy or not because the money is worth it, others will not. And there should be room to make that choice otherwise it is, in fact, not a job but some kind of indentured servitude (with A+ monetary benefits, as he's been pretty frank about himself). No one is obligated to grin and bear it because they might put a roadie out of a job (especially in a case like this where their roadies were not put out of their jobs, their thoroughly useless PR team still has their jobs, and the numerous other people that work in the 1D machine are still sitting pretty - so the scenario, to me, is moot).

To me, Harry comes across as overly-rehearsed, boring and facetious but a lot of people read that as charming, polite and well-behaved. Different strokes. I much prefer Zayn's attitude, he knows he's not a role model, he knows he regularly makes mistakes and doesn't deny that - he's just here to do what most 20 somethings his age are doing: figure it out and do something that he actually enjoys doing. And that's okay.
