A fantastic song choice IMO

It's a great song, however Lauren doesn't have enough light and shade in her voice to make it sound good. Her voice isn't interesting enough.

I don't recall any whistle notes in we belong together or is there? - No one this year has 5 octaves do they! It will be a very simple rendition.

Singing Whitnayyyy is one thing - slightly easier IMO but Mariah Carey? I think the only artist who comes close now a days is Ariana Grande and Lauren already tackled her song and did it very well - she's a brave girl. However I'm confident it will be a great cover and she will be fine, the girl can sing there's no doubt.

This could turn out to be a borefest really...

One of 4th Impact got whistle register...

Not keen on that song - having just youtubed it, there's no strong melody, no chorus to speak of (I spent about two minutes waiting for the chorus, but it just seemed to be one long verse) and is sung very fast, but with a plodding accompaniment. An odd song with great potential for mistakes, due to trying to shoehorn about 10 minutes worth of lyrics into about 3 minutes of music!

On a TV talent show, contestants need to have songs that the audience/viewers will remember by the time the voting lines open. I'm already struggling to remember the melody of this song and I've just finished listening to it!

That's actually a great song choice. It's one of Mariah's best songs and never been done on XF before. Well done Rita

Exactly!

As dull and predictable as Whitney and Beyonce tunes always being featured on the show.

I'm all for never-performed-before songs being used on XF and definitely a great one like 'We Belong Together'. I remember really wanting Alexandra to perform it on Mariah Week in her year but it never happened. Mariah might be an uninspired choice of artist, but it's the song choice that matters and 'We Belong Together' is fab!

I have to disagree with you Coco. Leona is still the artist in the music industry who comes closest to Mariah. After all these years, despite having a more "fuller" voice, she can hit those insanely high notes with ease.

The real theme is obviously Predictable and boring

I adore that song, one of her best! I don't mind them singign Mariah if it's a choice like this that hasn't really been done.

Isn't that the theme every week?

The theme just screams 'power ballad fest' and I'm not sure my ears deserve to be put through such torture

Hopefully Ché will do Tears Of A Clown (assuming they keep him firmly in the 60s soul niche) and liven things up a bit.

Failing that maybe R&B will do a reggae-lite version of Hello by both Adele and Lionel Richie with a middle eight provided by Gary Glitter's Leader of the Gang ('Hello, hello, it's good to be back' etc).

In fact why don't they just make the theme 'Hello'. Acts are only allowed to sing songs where the word 'Hello' is prominent. 'Wave Hello Say Goodbye' by Soft Cell, 'Hello Goodbye' by The Beatles, 'Hello I love you' by The Doors etc etc. At least then we'd get some f***ing variety aside from the inevitable Adele cover.
