iPlayer Radio with Chromecast problems.

When using iPlayer Radio with Chromecast it just stops working after about half an hour. The pause symbol appears on the TV and I have to go back into the app, press stop and then play and once again it works for about half an hour.

At first I thought it might be the sleep timer in the iPlayer Radio app, but I made sure that was switched off.

Anyone else experience this. It's BBC 5 Live Sports Extra I'm listening to (not tried any other stations yet).

ETA: I'm casting from a Samsung Galaxy S5, running Android 5.0.

No problems like this when I cast. Then again, I'm using Chromecast Audio.

Do you have any Smart DNS services configured?

I use TuneIn Radio with Chromecast, works very well.

On the TV yes. Not on the Chromecast (don't think you can?)

I was going to get the Chromecast audio, but this has kind of put me off. The main thing I want it for is BBC.

Just tested it with my Samsung and normal Chromecast and the same problem occurred. It stopped for me after about 30minutes.

Normally I use the BBC radio via iOS onto Chromcast Audio and don't have a problem there, so I suspect the problem is either with a normal Chromecast or Android.

I suspect the normal Chromecast. If I am not mistaken, BBC Radio didn't offer Chromecast support until the Audio device was released, so perhaps that is where they done more testing on? I would contact the BBC's support and see what they have to say.

Thanks ovbg. Can I be a real pain and get you to test your Samsung with your Chromecast Audio please? No worries if you can't.

Well I got a Chromecast audio and am getting exactly the same problem. Looks like it's the android iplayer radio app I think. There seem to be a few people complaining of the same problem, so hopefully they fix the app soon.

Seems to be the 35 minute mark when the audio stops.

Quick question. When using Tunein with chromecast is it the selected stream that casts? By that I mean when you start a station in Tunein you can then choose between the different streams the station offers? With the BBC they offer a UK stream and an international stream at each bit rate. When listening to sports the international stream often doesn't carry the commentary, so I need to be able to choose between them.

So if I choose the stream, say the UK 320K HLS stream in the app and then cast, is it that stream that casts or is it the Chromecast that decides between the available streams?

Thanks for the help.

Can't say but it is easy enough to install and test as it is free.

Well, the BBC have finally fixed the problem. They emailed me saying it's been fixed and after testing it definitely has.
