Just watched, via the Strictly Facebook page, Simon and Kristinas Argentine Tango from last year. It got me thinking about the amazing dances from years gone by that I may have forgotten.
What are your most memorable dances?

A tie between Ramps & Karen's Argentine Tango and Tom & Camilla's Showdance.

Both amazing in their own way.

For me, it has still got to be Jill Halfpenny's jive with Darren Bennett from series two; though Jay and Aliona's jive from this series is on a par with it.

Jill only scored 34 when she first performed the dance in week 3; Len's comment that it was "brilliant" and Bruno's describing of it as "a masterclass in jive - every step was there" said it all.

It is clear that judges score the early rounds so that improvement will be evidenced by greater scores in the later rounds (this was even more blatant in Dancing on Ice). I am not sure I agree with that as I believe a dance should be awarded what it is truly worth. Jill scored 40 in the final and I could detect no discernible difference in performance from round three, though admittedly I am no judge! With Jay's jive, Darcey announced her score of 9 with the words "as it is round three........nine" so to an extent this practice is still being adhered to, though Bruno was not afraid to award the jive a 10.

Mark Benton's Slow Waltz (seriously). The last few seconds, with him staring at his hands, gave me chills, and even though technically it was a solid 6.5, I wanted the judges to give it 9s as a piece of performance.

Serious: Tom and Camilla's Showdance, Harry & Aliona's Quickstep and Rachel & Vincent's Rumba.

Not Serious: Bacofoil.
And the dreaded VODERUMBA is memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Penny Lancaster Stewart and Ian's samba (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=On8TUDt0LuQ)

1. It's a camp classic in its own right. Everything about it is screamingly camp, because it's a samba choreographed by Ian. Those Proud Marys. Teenage me was copying that opening walk for ages afterwards, because I found it so goddamn fabulous.
2. That episode was the first episode of Strictly I ever watched (it also had Kelly Brook's amazing rule-breaking American Smooth, which is another of my all-time favourites) so it was enough to get me hooked.
3. Not technically brilliant, and maybe not strictly a samba, but that's all kind of irrelevant because she absolutely sells the hell out of it.
4. These Boots Are Made For Walking is one of my favourite songs of all time, and the band do a not bad job on it, which is pretty high praise from me.
5. THOSE BOOTS. And that dress.
6. And then the Great British Public voted that dance into the bottom two FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. Over John Barnes (who was the Jamelia of his day, he pretty much LIVED in the dance-off), Kate Garraway, Kenny Logan, and Dominic Littlewood. This was the first sign to me that said voting public have absolutely no taste.
7. It was the dance that knocked out Gabby Logan, which I have mixed feelings about, because I love Gabby Logan and just how she can never hide her competitive streak (in every other panel show I've seen her on, she's so on edge whenever they're about to announce the winner, it's hilarious) which I find kind of cute/endearing. In my head, she'll come back one day and win Strictly All-Stars because the public have finally learnt to love and accept competitive women.
8. I have a kind of weird emotional connection, because I think every gay man has those moments when they get a bit closer to realising their true sexuality, and the... deep and specific way in which I appreciated this dance got me about 50% of the way there. So thank you, Ian Waite, I never thought a 90-second dance would have a significant impact on me like that.

Bit of a long, over-sharing post, but I don't think I could rattle on as long as that for any other dance on Strictly than that.

I don't know about all time because I've loved so many over the years, but for the sheer joy, surprise and bloody excellence of it and the fact that I enjoy watching it again and gain I'd say one of my very favourites is Scott Maslens and Natalies Jive.

I've got quite a few others though- but yeah -I really loved this.

This is fab, so many great dances. How about Frankie and Kevin's Halloween tango - that was awesome also Jason and Kristina's tango? was it with the Priscilla vibe and I think the same year Holly and Artems tango. I've just realised most of my favourite dances are tangos or agentine tangos 😄
