Mission To Magnus - a good story or not?

I've just bought both the novel and the Big Finish audio of the story on eBay a few days ago. I read online that this was originally planned for Season 23 in 1986, but because Michael Grade put DW on an 18 month break in late March 1985, it never made it passed the script stage.

I'm going to be reading the book and listening to the story sometime in the next few days. I was wondering what people thought of this story. Is there anyone who have actually read the book and listened to it?

If so, what did you think?

I haven't read the book but the Big Finish story was okay. Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant were awesome and Nabil Shaban as Sil really captured his TV Version to perfect.

I thought having the Ice Warriors in it distracted from Sil a bit, both of then could ave done with separate stories of their own.

Aside that, it was okay.

Sometimes I find it's quite difficult to try and visualise in your mind what the story would look like if you were watching it on TV, when listening to it on audio.

When I do listen to MTM, I will try to visualise in my mind as best as I can, what it would have looked like on TV.

I've added a poll to this, so I can see for myself what people actually think of this. Obviously only people who have read the book and listened to the audio will vote.

I've now got round to listening to the audio, and I can quite honestly say that I enjoyed it. IMO, It wasn't brilliant, but it was good.

Is this the one with the Celestial Toymaker? Or am I on the wrong 'lost season' story?

I wouldn't be so sure... plenty of people round here seem capable of fully judging something after 5 minutes.
I've read the book, but not heard the audio. The book wasn't great in my opinion, a muddle of a story with very cliched characters and little to engage me. Perhaps the audio was better.

Well looking at the poll results there's a 50% chance it's good and a 50% chance it's bad so it could go either way. Ha, ha!

That was The Nightmare Fair, which was the first story of the original Season 23.

Which would indicate that the Sixth Doctor was going to say to Peri, "I'll take you to Blackpool'', at the end of Revelation of the Daleks. But because it had been announced on the main news that DW was to be put on an 18 month break, the picture was frozen before he could say the destination.

Which was stupid, as he could just as easily have been taking her to Blackpool as anywhere else.
