Was thinking of getting a kangaroo PC
But they will not be arriving in the UK until April next year.

Still,
At only £159 and a free keyboard the Linx 1010 looks a good deal.

Has anyone had any experience of these Linx tablets and their support or any good forums for them?

Not going to be using it for anything intensive, more really for web browsing, office (as it uses the W10 office apps being a 10 inch device free), and will use it for some remote of other Windows OS and servers.
Maybe a bit of iPlayer and youtube etc, on the road.
Am well versed with W10 type machines that have 32gb, so storage and spec not a problem.

Excellent device (probably best on market in its price range).

Linx have a superb support forum (unofficial forum run by enthusiasts). No other tablet has a support forum coming close to this one.

Take time to read guides in the guide section.

Be aware if you post there, its user base is much smaller than DS and it may take a few days to get a reply, bit you generally get a very helpful answer.

I've just got myself one of these. It's my first forray into Windows based tablets.

I'm a bit miffed about not being able to listen to music whilst having the screen off, but thats a Windows problem, not a device problem.

Fantastic bit of kit for the price.

Cheers guys, always good to hear others views .
Had a look at the forum, certainly some good guides there and some good advice.
I've found many unboxing videos and some nordic ones where its the Lamina 1010B and have been looking at those for the past few weeks.
Think I might be sold. Like you say for the money its ideal and pretty well specced to be adaptable and portable.

Real shame that Microsoft do not put their name to something like this, it would sell like hotcakes, rather than the Surface with its high price and clunky design (ignoring their higher spec) and I've tried all of the variants, just find them so awkward to use.
If it was not for qvc a few weeks back, would never have known about it.

I am using the Linx 8 right now. I would never buy an expensive android ever again.

For all the development in android, the multi-tasking capability is virtually non existent.

Just bought a linx 1010b from currys today.
It was £139.99 in their Black Tag deal.
All setup and running like a dream.

Now install touchmousepointer which gives very precise control for fiddly menus, but treating the whole screen (one of the options) a a giant mouse trackpad.

Also, make a usb recovery drive asap, using control panel, system, recovery, create a recovery drive, and select to copy system files.

A macrium reflect free system image is a good plan.

Also, a good idea to export your third party drivers as well, as Linx (and most tablets) tablets have special drivers not in standard MS iso (also part of reason for recovery usb drive above).

http://woshub.com/how-to-export-driv...indows-8-1-u1/

(works for 10 as well).

Finally specs say you can put a 32GB sd card as well but others on Linx forum have stated it will handle at least 128GB SD cards. Of course, backing up SD card regularly is a good idea as well.

Yes, certainly did create a system image.
For interest it was partitioned as;
100mb EFI sys
380mb Recovery
28.63GB c:\ which with OS left about 18GB. Once the essentials were installed, like browsers, vlc, dropbox, flash and some other progs leaves 17.2GB
Of course it has the three MS Office Mobile apps and Onenote already installed, which mimic the Android and iOS ones, and are excellent.

Not had TH2 come through yet, so apps to sd card install will be a bonus for this.

I have my own business cloud backup so no problem there. USB to cloud backup, no sticks. But I do make stick backups too and 32gb ones are now only a fiver. Often thing they ought to start giving you one free with these type of devices.

Tried the touchmousepointer some time ago on some other devices. Can see its use on an 8 inch device, but not needed on a 10.1 device, much like the 9.7 iPad and Android 10.1 they are so easy to use and control with touch and not really needed and certainly a breeze at that size.

Put in a 32gb sd card, all fine, but I do switch cards often across my devices. This device makes it so easy to swap them over.

Very impressed so far, this is really a nippy device and not seen any lag using touch. The 2gb certainly helps as I've seen some ASUS device reports with similar spec and were reported as slow and laggy.

Good test; word and excel open, work chat prog running, remote control session to a US MS server, dropbox loading up some large files, iPlayer running, the new iTV hub running live tv, a 720p video running in vlc, monitoring of my cctv streams and cpu stayed under 70%. Impressed. That would hurt some i5 machines.

Only downside of installing apps /programs on an sd card is that you can get issues when you remove sd card of course. I would avoid it installing there unless main drive storage gets a bit low.

Deal on now, £119. Ends in 22hrs from time of post or if stock gone.

I already have this notebook, which has similar specs, so would it be worth getting the Linx as well?

That's a good deal since it includes the keyboard which is usually £25 extra.

Just bought one, since my Linx 10, which I was very happy with, died after being stepped on. But one big advantage of these machines over an iPad is all my documents and files were on the micro SD card, so even though the machine is borked I just took the card out and can just put it in the new machine.
On the plus side it has two full sized UB ports, which is better than the 10's micro USB. On the downside I preferred Windows 8.1 for a tablet. Just have to see if I can get used to 10.

Have you claimed your free keyboard? PC World had this in the fine print on their website, don't know if the store told you about it. But you have to wait 30 days to claim. What is that all about?

Currys often do deals like that to claim extras. Many of the Samsung kit over the last few years you can claim extras like covers or money back.
All I can think is that linx wanted people to buy the keyboards originally, but are now including them.
Mine will be to claim December 24th, easy date to remember. So can wait till then.

Just had the TH2 update arrive this morning, it took 5 min to download and 35 mins to install.
All fine and its now running Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.14)

Yeah I've just bought one for £120 from Amazon today as well. Supposed to arrive Friday.
Some reviews mention the wifi being a bit flaky, but I guess with 2 full size USB ports you could always buy one of these tiny USB wifi dongles if necessary?

I see Sainsburys have an in-store Black Friday (27th only) deal for what they call the 'Linx Light 10' for £100.
http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/webapp/w...s/black-friday

It seems mostly the same spec, but with only 16GB internal storage.
The view seems to be that it is a special model only being sold in Sainsburys?
http://www.product-reviews.net/2015/...ecs-confusion/

I suppose if your maximum budget was £100 it might be a good option? But I wouldn't like to run Windows in less than 32GB. Especially as these Threshold upgrades seem to be coming in the form of full 3GB downloads.

Do not touch the 16GB version. People are finding issues with upgrading as you need up to 8GB spare space to upgrade, forcing a clean install.

Wifi has been fine on Linx tablets assuming latest drivers afaik.

That's good to know.

I read one guy saying he had problems while WPS was enabled on the router.
Don't see why that should be? but perhaps the latest drivers have fixed it (if indeed there was a problem).

Also some are reporting that when it goes into sleep mode it loses wifi connectivity, and a reboot is required.

Mine arrived today.

Love it so far, the keyboard seems well made and solid, but heavy which is I assume to keep the weight of the tablet tipping it over. Would have been great if they could have done what MS have done with the Surface Book and put some extra batteries in there. If you're going to put weight in might as well be something useful.

Still prefer 8.1 for tablet use, swapping between desktop and tablet mode is far faster and easier on 8.1 and some of the swipe gestures don't work in 10. And some, like the snap to half screen in tablet mode are switched off by default.
Edge worked perfectly, in that it downloaded Chrome for me.

Speakers are better than the 10, but arranged for stereo when used in portrait mode, which seems strange. If you're watching a movie both speakers are on the right.

Two full sized USB ports, plus a micro USB, is certainly a nice feature. And it's slightly smaller than the old 10 as well. Screen is the same size, but the bezel is smaller.

Very happy so far. A full Windows 10 PC for just over £100. All I have to do now is make sure no one treads on it....

Mine arrived today. (amazon delivery delayed)
Very impressed so far. With the keyboard attached it makes a great full Windows 10 touchscreen netbook. With the added convenience of a tablet when required.

Not entirely convinced that a Windows tablet matches an Android one? Android seems to scale web pages better, but it's not half bad.

And I haven't had any issues with wifi, even after putting it into sleep mode for while.
Plus the TH2 upgrade went through without a hitch, despite me leaving a 128GB micro sd card installed through it (some have had problem with that).

Internal space is at a bit of a premium though. Only got 18.5GB free after installing a few programs. Suppose I could have installed them on the sd card, but that might be a bit risky?

Not sure why it's only got the 32bit version of Win10 installed, even though it's a 64bit chip? But I guess that takes up less space?

These really are great devices.
Been impressed too with the battery usage, a 6-8 hours with use. But they take a long time to charge to full, so need to charge them overnight.
I've also had no problems with the wifi. I do not have sleep mode on, just screen off after 10 mins.
Did also wonder why it only had the 32bit version, but does not really cause any issues and like others have said, it does save space.

Worth looking at portable apps. Best one that I use is
http://portableapps.com/platform/features
Install your apps on an sd or on dropbox and then you can take the apps and data with you.

Been using it only in desktop mode and finding the touch just great on it without problems. As the few apps I use now run in desktop mode, no real need for the tablet mode.
Would be nice if the MS touch keyboard had some transparency, but I got this one that offers some great features and transparency and is just a click from the taskbar;
http://freevirtualkeyboard.com/

As for a replacement for Android or iOS tablets. I use many devices on these platforms and this is not going to replace them. But as a portable Windows device for me its great on your lap, in the garden, on the road and even on the desk docked and wired up to a big screen, external hard drive it is excellent for all your day to day windows needs.
