So Jay doesn't smile enough?

Just watched some of Artem and Kara dancing - they never a smile until the end but nobody ever said they should show more emotion !!! so why are they berating Jay?

Hardly seems fair to include such an intensely dance trained man in the competition, and no matter how much the other contestants give fluffy interviews about how they love each other there is sure to be an undercurrent of resentment that genuine newbies or those with just a dollop of stage school street dance or ballet are expected to pit their limited skills against such intense dance training .
When he takes the trophy there will always be a cloud over his win , in the same way other trained/highly experienced past winners get dishonourable mentions occasionally . Just my opinion .”

C'mon now , we had a lot of ringers who didn't win ( Natalie, DVO...... ) or didn't even make it to the finals ( Pixie) so being a " trained dancer " doesn't always guarantee you a win on this show. His natural talent and most importantly his likability play a huge part in his success NOT his training imo.
Helen also had training didn't she ? Or Kellie as well ? Why don't they get so much flack for it like jay ?

No he isnt a shoe in but it definitely wouldnt surprise me if he does win because he is a very good dancer he also has a great personality and is liked by different sections of the audience.

I do though think Georgia, Helen, Katie & Anita have a great chance of winning.

SEB was a superior ballroom dancer though.

And even within this series, Jay would be struggling for a top 3 position in the ballroom dances (beautiful arms only gets you so far).

Will Jay win? Probably, but for me it's all about getting my favourite to the final (delivering the package to it's final destination) and then all is well (only once a favourite of mine has won, so my goals are a bit lower).

I would love to know what the voting figures are each week. I wish they would release them at the end of each series.

I don't think he is a shoo in at all. He was clearly the best dancer at the start but the mistakes he has made combined with the hatchet job the judges/producers have done on him have all but destroyed his chances.

Plus dancers such as Georgia and Anita have really come out of their shells and improved so much.

I still want Jay to get to the final but in order to win he has to stop making the mistakes and they need to stop harassing him and start praising him before his confidence is gone forever.

I want him to win - but ONLY if he is the best dancer on the night.

as you are so confident of Jay winning , I won't ask you to bet on that , but would you pickle your walnuts if he fails to land the glitter ball ??

Totally agree The main goal for me is to see all the dances. The result can often surprise you.

expect the unexpected , I fear for Jay tonight , he has to perform to a standard that the judges want , even though he maybe technically very good

They'll never do that to protect the Celebrities.

Who would risk going on Strictly if it might become known that you only polled half a dozen votes - it could wreck a celebrity's career.

It's one of the reasons there is the dance-off - so it isn't obvious who was bottom (though we can have a go at working it out.)

Doubt if anyone apart from the most senior producers know the voting numbers, especially as the on-line and phone votes are done separately.

Sometimes rumours get out that so-and-so polled really well, but that's all.

Yes, good point. I would be over the moon if Anita and Georgia made the final. Anything else would be a bonus, but for them to get the experience of being there till the end and at least having a shot at the trophy would make me very happy

I think it's a bit late for you to start worrying about that

No need to apologise and it didn't upset me

I just wanted to clarify the reasons I felt the way I did and that I had no ulterior motive. I'm sorry if my post was harsh enough to make you feel you should apologise

I feel exactly the same...for G & G to get to experience the final, and get a chance to repeat their favourite dance and showdance is enough for me.

I agree, Sid, it was less clear cut and Jake seemed to have the early lead. I guess the problem is that in the past I've been pretty much in tune with the public (e.g. Alesha, Harry, Chris etc), but I just wasn't a big Caroline fan at all (didn't dislike her though) and so I just never considered her a contender.

I think I've felt less in tune (and therefore less able to predict the winner) since Internet voting was introduced in Abbey's year (?). It feels to me like a different demographic that is voting now.

I know what you mean, I have the same sense of change and being slightly out of step with the audience now even though it's difficult to put my finger on exactly why. I suspect you're right and it's to do with appealing to a broader demographic. I do get a bit wistful sometimes!

That strikes a chord with me too. I was gobsmacked when Abbey won - I didn't even think she danced well in the final. I was slightly less surprised by Caroline (mainly because she had Pasha) but I wouldn't have thought Strictly fans would fall for her overgrown adolescent persona. So they are the two winners I have been most surprised with. Maybe the internet voting, as Monkseal says, is a major factor.

I am not really a fan, but I think a repeat of the Jive in the final could win it for him as long as he makes the final (which I think is pretty certain).

I've said it from week one, so i'm not changing my tune now.

It was the same with Harry, and Louis - It's not a difficult shout out to make or justify (jay wining) in my opinion.

he did a good job tonight - as aliona put it, a sense of being able to play with the dance really started to come through. maybe having the backing dancers helped him, but he seemed much more relaxed, much more at ease, much less technically focussed, and it was good to see. if he continues on this trajectory, he'll meet all the criteria for a great winner.

Ah, interesting. I didn't see Monkseal's post when I wrote mine. I've just read it now and agree with what he says.

Looked more of a shoe-in rather than a shoo in tonight . The ptb must be choking on their canapes backstage watching the girlies leave little jaybird in their dust when they've been trying to shoe-horn him into the winner's place for weeks .
If the marking was fair then kellie would have had more 10's, and georgia and anita would have 4 x 10's .
