Is Jay really such a shoo-in for the glitter ball?

Well, I've watched this show for 12 years and my favourite has won twice, and I have still loved all the dancing by my favourites who didn't win. Isn't that the point? Even if you don't like him, Jay doesn't stop you enjoying the dancers you like. They all finish at most in two weeks time whether they win or not.

I think this series will turn out to be have been absolutely brilliant for the careers of Jeremy, Anita and Katie, win or lose. I think it might open new doors for Kellie and Helen, or they might go back to their previous roles and not much change - we'll see. I think the series has been particularly important for Jay and Georgia, even if someone else wins. They were both at difficult transitions in their careers - leaving a band and a soap - and Strictly has given them an incredible opportunity to make new fans and introduce themselves to a new audience in an almost totally positive way. I can't really think of another show that could have shown them off in quite the same way. I have no idea what Jay wants to do next, so it's harder to predict for him, but I have no doubts that Georgia will get much better TV and musical theatre (if she can sing?) roles offered to her because of how well she's done and how endearing she's been on Strictly. I don't think 'the point' has ever been a silver glitterball.

And if it helps it's not a foregone conclusion.

I couldn't stand Harry Judd, I found him as interesting and exciting to watch as paint drying.

I've watched it since Series 1 and in all that time the person I've liked the best has won on four occasions but there have been absolutely stand out performances from the "not winners" which I've loved and still go back and watch over again now in every season.

Each year one couple who aren't my favourite will often produce what turns out to be my favourite dance of the series. Natalie Gumede being a perfect example. Her Charleston was my dance of the series but she wasn't my favourite contestant that year.

We are still waiting, aren't we Korky? I really wanted to know.

Puzzled.

What an excellent post. Some sanity amid the melee.

Thank you!

There was one of Westlife a few years ago, partnered with Karen, but I've completely blanked on the name. I suspect Westlife had far bigger UK sales than either McFly or The Wanted, and he was fairly inoffensive and attractive. He went out in the quarters or thereabouts I think.

Nicky Byrne. A looker but rather cold personality who had a strange relationship with his pro dancer Karen, who was in her first series.

Nicky seemed like an alright chap but he was a terrible dancer pretty much throughout.

Nicky Byrne, that's it! Totally forgot it!

I thought he was fine in his personality but not a great dancer. But that's beside the point, surely if pretty boybanders are sure to win (regardless of anything else) he should have gone further, regardless of his abilities - especially considering his existing fanbase.

But he didn't win, leaving us with a 50-50 strike rate before Jay.

Neither did Simon Webbe, he's another pretty boy band contestant He nearly got kicked out a couple of times by being in the DO but did make it to the finals.
Technically you could put Jason Donovan down as well I reckon, as a boy pop singer, chuck in Peter Andre and there's another three who haven't won it.

Yes, we are. I have put questions to Jay's three main detractors on various threads asking for further explanations of his perceived faults but have not received the courtesy of a reply. One criticised the Jive and I asked for details of all Jay's errors. I'm still waiting...

I haven't been a Jay fan up till now but I really loved his rumba. If he had been in a traditional all black costume that would have shone a lot brighter but even with the farmhand outfit, it was hot! Hotter still was the little snippet when they go offstage after the dance, and they're celebrating, and at the end, he mumbles a very sexy "Come here!" before a hug. Have to admit I was all

Lovely to hear this Elsa. It's wonderful when a dancer really touches you and stirs something deep inside for the first time and makes you aware of new feelings.

Is Jay such a shoo-in for the glitterball?

He better be, as judging by this weekend the other top dancers are struggling for public support...
