We have been doing the lotto as a syndicate at work and we have about £50 each to come back.
I am going to spend it all on a bottle of single malt.
I'm not too keen on strong peaty or oaky flavours.
I have had Jura Superstition which wasn't too bad.
Any suggestions?

I know what scotches I would recommend if you liked peat. Since you want to avoid peat, how about trying a really good bourbon instead of a single malt? I recommend Blanton's Original Bourbon. It is very smooth and elegant, without the oakiness found in a lot of bourbons. It costs 43 pounds at The Whisky Exchange on-line store. If you are not open to bourbon and insist on a non-peated single malt, you might want to go with a Glenfiddich.

Lidl currently have limited stocks of posh whiskys for Christmas, including a 28 year old single malt for £50. Good value for that price, according to another thread and other forums.

That was the thing with the only bourbon I tasted. It was so oaky.
I'd always thought Glenfiddich was like the Smirnoff of the vodka world. The unknown or less well known distillers are far better.
First world problem, I know, so many whisky's to choose from.

Yes I spotted that discussion the other day. There is nothing like that left at my local lidl.

Give 'Old Pulteney' a try, roughly £25-30, and smooth as 👍

And on offer in Tesco at £24 instead of £30. Reads like a smooth whisky too.

It's lovely. Can't recommend it enough.
£24 is a good price. Go for it 👍

Edit - another nice one, is 'Scapa'. From Orkney. Think it's either 15 or 17 yr old, again, really easy & smooth to drink.

The Balvenie is usually good, can't stretch to one in the £50 range but the ones I've had are good certainly not peaty.

Glenmorangie is the king of all single malts. A beautiful, light, honey flavoured whisky with no peat.

Bought a bottle this morning. Couldn't resist a little sip. Now that's what I call smooth😀
Thanks for all the other suggestions everyone but big thanks to farmerbob.

Put some coke with and perfect. Joking!!😂

Old pulteney is a cracker, great value.
Highland park is also very good.

For a non peated single malt around the £50 mark, Glenfarclas 15 year old is a good bet.

Glenfiddich is seen as middle of the road, but do have some highly rated whiskies. The 15 yr old Solera Vat is highly regarded by whisky buffs.

Highland Park and Jura are my favourites.

Thanks for the tip - I have 'invested'
It's the same price at Asda too if thats more convenient.

Asda also have the Welsh whisky "Penderyn" on offer at £29.50 which is a very good price for that - I rather like it - it's a bit stronger than most at 46% ABV but still very smooth.

I second the Glenfarclas recommendation, and would add Dalwhinnie to the list - very smooth and light.

I've got several bottles from various distilleries so I get to choose depending on what I fancy but mostly it's Glenmorangie or Jura Superstition which gets poured into my glass
