That's what bothered me about Nick's comment too - it's how it came across. Surely as a judge, Nick should be more open minded about music? The music industry isn't just what's on the Radio 1 playlist. I could see what Nick was trying to say about where Anton would fit in the music industry generally, but I think it was poorly worded and I could see why Anton took the comments the wrong way.

Anton is very vulnerable and seems a bit unstable - I don't think this show is good for him, and so I hope he is voted off tonight for his own sake.

That's what Nick's like. He's a catty, bitchy 30-year-old wannabe, trying to be a teenage DJ.

What on earth has Anton done to be called vile?

To keep repeating what you "think" Grimshaw meant and said does not make it so. He seems to think if he wouldn't play it on his show it's not really relevant. I don't know now why they have an overs category. Simon was less than overjoyed to have got them. It's really annoying that there is a train of thought that only young artists are of any worth and older viewers are discounted also. Nick is talentless and charmless and shouldn't come back next series.

Nothing imho.

And the same goes for any other act.

People should stop believing any old crap that The Sun prints.

Excuse me?

He is arrogant, can't sing for toffee, and personally, I think he's generally a dodgy character.

I don't read the sun, I just do think he's vile, whenever he sang it made my skin crawl and his false 'thank you' routine - awful.

Anton dug his own grave with that awful performance though, and the fake emotion when he finished the song was cringe and fooled no one.

The way the music industry has changed means that most money is generated through merchandising and concerts. Yes you will get a few exceptional artists like Adele who will have massive worldwide success without touring but they are an exception in today's market.
Anton doesn't have enough appeal or likability factor to break through to mass market. The fact he's all ready been in the bottom two and the declining interest in Xfactor as a whole means any artist that wins really has to have something extra to make it.
I've never been a fan of 1 Direction however they ticked all the boxes to be successful. Leona Lewis had a fantastic voice during the show and hugely successful career launch but if you looked back a lot of people pointed out about her lack of personality. And whist the initial success was huge it didn't stop her second album having a 70% drop in sales. And come her latest release as much as fans raved about her vocals mass interest wasn't there.
If you look back over the past winners the majority had 1 hit album and quickly diminished. Part of the problem is people who vote on the show aren't always the people who then buy music. Yes novelty factor of buying the winners single or first solo album but by the following year they are back to watching and voting on a new round of contestants and last years winner is old news.
I didn't find Nick,s comments harsh but actually reality of the music industry. Personally I can't stand him but what he said was truthful Anton would never sell out Arena's or have huge sales.”

But what are the mainstream radio stations?

It's not Radio 1 anymore, they are losing millions of listeners every year, so much so that people in the music industry are trying to put pressure on the PTB to change the format.
And that will continue as they have set their stall out to only appeal to the very narrow demographic of 15-24.
The age range that increasingly don't listen to any radio at all and instead use YT and spotify ect.

It's commuters/car drivers, workers with radio on in the background who are the big audience.
Radio 1 seems to be completely unaware of this.

More and more it's not R1 you hear in a shop but R2 or another local commercial station.

That Nick Grimshaw is a nasty piece of work.

His comments about Anton were unfair as most people do not listen to Radio 1.

The main ones for modern contemporary pop would be, Absolute, Capital, Radio 1 and Kiss.
I'm not sure of current audience percentages I think Radio 2 has the biggest percentage of a single station however the combined totals of the 4 above would be greater than Radio 2.
I don't disagree with what you are saying but Anton wouldn't appeal to younger audiences or sell well in the singles chart. He also wouldn't make Syco records any money on merchandising, or sell out arena's. Yes he might get AirPlay on Radio 2 but even then I think he has limited appeal.
Tonight showed that as yet again he was in the bottom. As a casual catch up viewer I personally couldn't take to him, I'm not saying he can't sing I just don't find anything interesting about him or how he performs and sings. Going from the forums he seems to split the audience so I'm not the only person which is why overall I couldn't see him being a big success.
