Average singer, average dancer. Only really "positive" anyone can give him...is basically that he's a dick. That might appeal to a small demographic, mainly the demographic that buy singles (young urban wannabe Londoners), but it doesn't appeal to the majority.

Essentially that style of R&B is musically terrible, and unappealing to anyone who does not subscribe to that particular "urban" fashion. His fascination with grabbing his crotch, winking and grinding on girls just makes him look like a prick. That might male him a modern "pop star", but there's a reason the majority of the country don't buy singles any more.”

Really good post and agree what you're saying, personally i blame the likes of the awful Radio 1 for promoting the disposable crap that is now passed as music.

The "majority" of the country have never bought singles. There's no point comparing the population size to record sales as it doesn't stand for anything. Some artists can never get a hit on the singles chart but can have huge albums or huge tours.

The funny thing is that Justin Bieber (an artist Mason covered on the 1st live show) has just had two worldwide huge singles, both of which went to #1 here in the UK and he's the exact same genre as Mason is. There's clearly a demand for this sort of music and these type of artists. At the same time Jason Derulo had a worldwide smash single a few months ago, Drake is huge on tours and albums and has a single in the top ten worldwide right now, Chris Brown is constantly in the top 40 and has had dozens of hits, Frank Ocean's R&B album was a commercial success and had huge critical acclaim and even Nick Jonas just had a worldwide hit single with the song Mason sang tonight on the show.

You can knock Mason for his voice or attitude if you like, but you can't say that the genre he sings is the problem. Even if what you were saying was true about R&B music, what about the genres that Che and Louise are covering every week?? When are those types of songs ever in the top 10??

The people that listen to popular music and buy it are not necessarily the same people that stay in to watch x-factor on a Saturday evening. Not that many people who have won xfactor have gone on to become major stars - although a few have made a career out of it.

Mason was rubbish and had a bad attitude with it. Thank god he has gone. Bet Nick wishes he had saved Seann now.

On a positive note - the six acts that are left are the best 6, they are all either talented or entertaining or both. Mason was neither of these.

The public got it right for once.

Only performance I enjoyed from Mason was in the song off.

Surely someone wishing to succeed in that genre of music would not try to do it on this kind of show. I don't think it would give them any credibility. He gave all the arrogant talk about being an artist and then came out singing Justin Beiber which just made him look a fool. He's just a silly little boy thinking he's the next Kanye or whatever

Mason shouldn't have come back.

His attitude may have stank but at least he had an attitude, unlike bland watching-paint-dry non-entities like Che.

Sadly his performances from JH onwards completely lost the energy and edge, and replaced it with pretty dull and uninteresting watered down dirges. Men In Black was the best of a bad bunch.

Basically he's killed his credibility and his music career for the sake of holding on to a place in a competition that doesn't suit people like him.

This argument doesn't wash with me. Young people dont tend to leave the house for a night out until after 10pm. My friends and i used to watch X Factor whilst having a few in the house before going out when we were in our early twenties.

He was kind of rubbish. Very surprised at the overly positive comments each week, it's almost like they were afraid of triggering an angry response and in the end, he went out with a whimper as he wasn't really the "bad boy" advertised, barely willing to give a controversial opinion. And what is up with that weird accent?

Not much of a loss.

That's why X Factor continues to fail.

I guess I'm alone in being happy with the results. The whole thing surrounding Mason this series has been a car crash.”

You are actually wrong regards who buys music.

Sales to over-35s far outstrips that to younger age groups - it's just that the music industry doesn't actually need to do much to make those sales as buying habits are well-established. The tweenies/teenies market gets more publicity because buying habits are not so established and because it is very fragmented.

This^^^.

Completely agree - the songs and styling didn't match up to the previous bad-boy image.

If they think Bieber is a bad boy they are deluded. A ****** yes, bad boy no.

I am very glad to see him gone. Weak vocally and big-headed with no talent to back up his ego. He seemed to think he was some sort of musical genius doing something groundbreaking, but we have all seen that type of act a thousand times before. He is lucky to have lasted on the show as long as he did.

What made me laugh was all the boasting for weeks about having his album ready to go
how he is already a star, then we find out hes been a waiter the entire time"! Hilarious.

I'll miss Mason, he's hot. But I would never take him seriously as an artist.

And they didn't even give him a mic to drop one last time.

Mason would have been better not to come back. He should have stood by what he said at 6 chair challenge. He would have stood a better chance. Instead the show has ruined him.

His post-result comments were staggering. Something about looking forward to meeting his fans as if he was an established quality artist. I dread to think how much of kn0b he is in real life.

To be honest, I think he's already been signed. I think he was signed after the mic drop incident, and they brought him back to use X Factor basically as an advertising tool. His comments kind of alluded to a future that he appeared to be aware of.
